I have a question about the Family Class Visa.

Okay, so, I'm 19 and engaged to a Canadian, and I have considered going to live with him, seeing as he has a house, a good paying job. I don't have these things, sadly. He'd be able to support me. (I live in the USA, by the way, and he is in Canada, obviously.)

So, this is my question -

Let's say I get a temporary visitor's visa and I have gotten it, and a work permit as well. I'm let into Canada, and I'm working, everything is all good.
Would I be able to apply for Family Class Visa within Canada? Or would I have to return to my country of residence in order for that to be legal?

If you are a US citizen, you don't need a visitor visa. Getting a work permit, being 19 and probably low on work experience and education would be hard though. If you go as a visitor, you are allowed to stay for up to 6 months but not work. You can use this time to explore your relationship. If you get married, he can sponsor you to become a permanent resident in Canada. You wouldn't have to leave.

So, as long as I am visiting, I would not have to leave if we got married? Of course, he would have to get the application for sponsorship, correct? (I'm pretty sure about that, but I'm just making sure.) We can apply for sponsorship while I am in Canada living with him, or would I have to go home to do that?

What if he does fill out all the apps for Sponsorship, but we don't hear back from anyone as my 6 months of visiting is coming close to expiring; Would I have to go back home and wait until he heard from the Canadian Government that everything is "all good"?

I hope I'm not confusing you any, Leon.

It is actually faster for you to get your application processed in the US than to get it processed in Canada but even if you get it processed in the US, you can still stay in Canada while you wait. You only have to go to the US if there's an interview. If you get close to the 6 months while you are in Canada, you can just apply to extend your visitor status to keep yourself legal.

outland processing is faster than inland so i would recommend you to apply from USA and u can still go to canada and wait there but once they call for the interview then u will have to undergo it in USA best of luck

All right, this helps me a lot. Thank you.

If I do end up having to extend my Visa to stay in Canada while we wait, do I tell the Border Customs that I am engaged, and my fiance and I are waiting to hear back from the Canadian government? Would they disallow me to extend it if I told them that? Or in order to prevent that, do I just need to show fee receipts when purchasing the Visa?

Border? Why? You can apply to extend by mail. You don't have to go anywhere. If you are crossing the border back and forth, you can tell the border people what you want but keep in mind that they can deny you entry at any time, visa or not. It is important that you can not take up residence in Canada on a visit visa so do not make the mistake of arriving at the border with all your worldly possessions.

I can extend by mail? I did not know this. Once again, Leon. I appreciate all the info you are giving me.

Well, see, I am not the kind of person who would lie to customs, that is for sure. I could never do it, I'd feel so guilty. I would be one hundred percent honest.
Although my plan is to eventually be in Canada with my fiance, I have to do it the legal way. I cannot bring myself to do it illegally, which is why I am asking so many questions, hah. I apologize, by the way, if I am becoming a pest because of all the questions I am asking.

Speaking of questions Leon, I have another for ya'.

When applying for the Visitor's Visa, do I need proof a physical examination by a Doctor? A copy of a receipt? I read that sometimes it is not required, but should I have an exam done anyway?

You don't need a medical unless they ask for it. You will need one for the sponsorship but normally not for visit visa extension.

Ah, all right.
I wasn't completely sure, 'cause I went to Canada to visit him once and stayed for a week, and they didn't ask for medical stuff.

So,would if I decided to apply for the Sponsorship Visa while in Canada, under a visitor's visa, would I have to go home to get my medical examination, or could I have one done in Canada?

You can have the medical done in Canada, it is even cheaper than the US.

Hmm, all right.

The only reason I ask is because I am just thinking more and more of just applying for the Sponsorship Visa while in Canada with my fiance under the Visitor's Visa. (That can legally be done, correct? I just want to make sure everything is done the legal way, and I want to be 200 percent sure.)

Since I don't need a Visitor's Visa to enter Canada and stay and visit, can I just apply for the Sponsorship Visa? Or is the Visitor's Visa a must have if our plan is to marry and apply for sponsorship?
