Husband used an FBI channeler.......

So my husband used an approved FBI channeler for his fingerprints and decided to not tell me until after he received the results.

I then told him that CIC does not accept the FBI report to be done by a third party, only originals by the FBI.

So, he has re-done his fingerprints and sent them to the FBI last week.

We have our application ready to go so the question is......

Should we submit our application with the results from the channelers and send in the originals when we get them? Or should we wait for the reults to come back from the FBI (which could take months)?

I am leaning towards submitting the application so that we can get sponsorship approval while we are waiting for the FBI results and then send in the originals after we get our file number. Has anyone done this?


What do you guys think?? I really am trying to avoid any delays with our application. :'(

I sent my application inland so my situation may be slightly different than yours but we did send our application before we sent in the FBI results, as per advice from various sources. We just made sure that we included a note that said the FBI clearance has been ordered and that we would mail it in when we got the results. I'm not sure if they needed it for first stage processing but in any case it didn't matter because the first stage took so long that the results would've arrived long before they processed it.

You should wait and send it all together in my opinion. Otherwise it can get messy and complicated.

I would only mail in a complete application. Incomplete applications can be returned! It seems the VO usually asks for additional documents, but not always. There's also a chance they won't match your second envelope with the first!

I'm trying to avoid it being complicated and I'm also afraid that when I do send the original in after, that it could be lost and never reach my package.

FBI check came back with incomplete prints. I had to get them done again (for free, thanks guarantee) and re-submit the papers.

It took five additional weeks. Mailed application in January 2013 instead.

It sucks. I know it does. For me, though, waiting was the best decision. I wanted to send 1 package - no more.

Which was great until two days later when I realized I filled out IMM 5490 wrong....... sigh!

You tried so hard to send one package but ended up sending additonals. Funny how things work out!

I agree, you should wait. We asked for the FBI report too early, and since its validity period is limited, by the time we had the other stuff ready it had expired and we had to get another one... ugh.

Get things right from the beginning, and then you will be satisfied in your application and you won't worry constantly about it. Or maybe you will, but a bit less!

I think I will wait until the FBI report comes in. It might be awhikle because my husband will then have to mail it to me in Canada then I can send it off with the application.

Not to be the voice of dissent but I disagree with waiting: send it off ASAP. My partner and I were waiting ages for his Australian police report and didn't want to delay the application any further, so we sent it off and included a letter saying that we would forward the Aus report when it arrived. We had sponsorship approval before it even arrived. As soon as we got it, we mailed it directly to the London office processing our app. Sent them a msg the next week asking that it had been received and they confirmed that it had. All in all, WAY BETTER decision to send it off and mail the police report once it arrived

I think a lot of it depends on the VO and how efficient they are. Some never respond to emails. Some are very slow.
