Husband in Iraqi military

Hi everyone

I previously sponsored my husband from Iraq in 2013 and he was refused because of our financial situation at the time. We appealed our case and then withdrew it. We want to reapply now for sponsorship again and I want to ask if it would be okay for us not to mention that he was in the Iraqi military? In our previous sponsorship we did mention it but we would rather we don't mention it this time. Will it affect our sponsorship in any way? Will they have any way to find out if he really was in the military or not? A lot of people are telling me the actual reason he was refused the first time was because of the military and they just didn't want to put that down as the reason.

You have to mention that he was in the military.

If you fail to mention this in the new application, that's misrepresentation (lying in the application) and you'll pretty much be guaranteed another refusal, as well as putting yourself at risk for a 5 year ban from Canada.

Omitting this information is simply not an option.

And yes - they will certainly have ways of finding out. The easiest way will be that they still have your old application on record in their computer systems and the fact that he was in the military is clearly listed there. Background / security checks will also show this information. Lying in your application is really a very very bad idea.

Make sure you also declare that he was previously refused PR. This also must be declared.
