How many copies do you need when you sponsoring a spouse?

I'm sponsoring my husband and I have a few questions.


There are these forms on the webpage.

1.Schedule A – Background/Declaration [IMM 5669] (PDF, 170 KB)

2.Additional Family Information [IMM 5406] (PDF, 88 KB)



However, the Guide to Immigrating [IMM 3999] says :

This form must be completed by:

you, the principal applicant;
your spouse or common-law partner (whether accompanying you to Canada or not), and
your dependent children aged 18 or over (whether accompanying you to Canada or not).


We are confused because we are not sure if we need several copies of these forms from me, my husband and family members.
Do you need several separate papers of these forms completed by both a sponsor and the sponsored person? Or do you need only one papers completed by a sponsored person only.

But where in the guide does it say that the sponsor doesn't need to fill out IMM 5669 and IMM 5406 though? Afterall, the sponsor IS technically the spouse of the principal applicant, right...??

I agree. Only the one being sponsored has to fill out those forms.

Yeah i agree with other posters the guide is really confusing,

I am not sure if you noticed but the family sponsorship forms are divided into sponsorship forms and immigration forms. Both IMM 5669 and IMM 5406 are part of the Immigration form which means they should be filled by the one who is immigrating to Canada which is your husband, and must not be filled by the applicant(sponsoring person i.e. You)

The forms Additional family information (IMM 5406) and Schedule A – Background/Declaration (IMM 5669) are generics form and are used in many other immigration visas, such as the skilled workers where both the principal applicant, spouse and depedants needs to fill it (at skilled workers visa and many others visa schemes both the applicants, spouse and dependant childs are outside canada). That is why CIC is looking for their details, other canadian residents or canadian citizens their information is already available and is not required.

Yeah while it's true that the forms are divided into sponsorship and immigration forms, the fact remains that the instruction says that the principal applicant's spouse has to fill out IMM 5669 and IMM 5406, which means that without any other supporting statements, technically anyone new to this sponsorship thingy would think that the sponsor (which IS the principal applicant's spouse) HAS to complete those 2 forms..... =/

I really think the CIC should add another statement, like:

"Note: if your spouse is your sponsor, then he/she doesn't need to complete IMM 5669/IMM 5406".

That way it's crystal clear..........

are you applying under LCP? if yes, you and your dependents 18 years old above need to fill up the form IMM5669 and 5406. Just check the updated checklist. thanks

fandv, I agree with you totally, as I am lost right now in that very situation! Afraid to send this away without knowing for SURE I'm doing it right, and after countless hours, and days and several months of painstakingly doing this process as best I can.....only to end it by sending this away with anxiety that it could be wrong because of this ONE point, and then possibly sent back!

How cruel of them, not to make everything crystal clear, since they come up with all these stupid rules!

Sorry people for sounding a bit harsh, its just that I have almost broken up with my partner over the stress from all the bs!

before we pass our application to CEM my oldest son is only 17 yrs. old, and now he is already 18, so does he need to fill up the generic form? and pass it to the embassy?! confused!
