Old man with very young looking woman, non attractive male with a supermodel, lack of emotion on faces, lack of physical contact in pictures, to name a few.
The alternate scenario happens also... I seem to remember a case where an older Canadian woman went on vacation (can't recall if Cuba or Mexico), a young good looking male worker from the resort was all over her, they got married and she sponsored him... and he took off shortly after arriving here.
There's lots of foreigners trying to take advantage of older/single Canadians. CIC does have a tough job in trying to sort out the real from the fake, and trying to protect not just other Canadian tax payers but the actual sponsor who could be getting duped.

I met a close friend of mine while I was living and working as a translator in Japan. We have a lot in common: Both from Alberta, same interests, etc. About halfway through his contract, his father was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He left Japan and returned to Canada. After his father passed away, his mother had a very tough time. She started chatting with guys from Africa and India on dating sites. Eventually, she married an Indian after only meeting him once in person. She goes to India once (twice?) a year to visit him, paid for his university education and sponsored him for PR. She is in her 60s, he is in his 20s. My friend has contacted CIC to tell them not to let him in. I'm not making this up.

Well we differ 30 years, but I am Swedish, have a Master's degree, and have worked here in Canada legally as technical support before getting my degree and as a Production Manager, and I will be working in Sweden as a business consultant at a large consulting firm starting March.

Plus we're both super attractive. I mean, drop-dead gorgeous.

Nothing wrong with that. Age is just a number. However, both you and your partner are from first world countries, highly educated and are drop-dead gorgeous! 8)

Hmm... I still don't see how they can justify this.

Genetics play a big role. When I was a teenager, I looked like I was in my late 20s and now, people say I look too young for my age, sometimes they think I am a teenager...lol. Also doesn't help that I apparently sound like a 5 year old when I speak on the telephone because I have a very soft voice :-X.

Also, if you have money to spend, there is a whole world of Botox (thus the lack of facial expressions), implants, liposuction, etc where you can change your appearance and be more attractive. Like the movie actors always seem young no matter their age.

Physical contact can also be staged.

This really worries me, my hubbie and I are 6 years diff (27 - 33). He is Asian I'm latina girl (very rare couple). They said he is the beast and I'm the beauty. Still we love each others no matter age, race or looks. I think the VO really has a difficult job when they have to assess an application, it's like they have to look inside everyone hearts to know the truth and that's impossible.

6 years is not that big a deal. Maybe it gets a closer look since the wife is older but then again, 6 years is pretty much considered to be within the same age range. Big age difference is considered to be at least 10 years and more often like 20+

My wife is seven years older than I am (wife: 44, me: 37). I've always liked older women, plus I found Japanese women my age and younger to be mentality immature (when I was living in Japan). If you have enough proof that your relationship is genuine, you should be alright!

Hi forum people, am very happy to write here for my first time. i have been reading both good and discouraging messages here for a whole week. But today i get strength to write also. I started in August 2013 and my husband received approved letter in September 2013. In November our file went in interview queue up to now but my husband write to Embassy in January 2014, reply was that my interview day will be communicated very soon. Now this week, i receive email that interview is March 2014 and it seems they need me to prove my marriage to my husband.
Yet our marriage is real, we love each other too much but how do i prove to interview visa officer?
Am very very worried. i read so many things here that causes to ask for interview and most of them are like in our file.
- met my husband online, we chat so so much about many things for 4 months
- after my husband comes to visit my home country for 4 days
- i go to his country with him we get married and stayed together 2weeks he goes to canada.
- he is divorced 7 years ago, but me i have never married before but have child from past friendship
- he is 18years olders me (me 32yrs and him 50years) but he looks very younger than his years.
- he has masters degree, i have 1 degree

so these are some of the things worrying me. so you think i will be approved at interview. Please forum help me on what to do on interviews. We love each other and we dont want anything to separate us becuase even waiting is so stressing. Thank you
yours'

I can see why they are requiring an interview. From a visa officers point of view, this will all be raising a lot of red flags. The interview is to find out just how close, both in terms of emotions and knowledge, your relationship and subsequent marriage are. You will be expected to know a lot of very personal information about each other, just as a married couple should. There are some sample question lists on the board and I have listed some of them.

The last question on the list is usually "What will you do if I refuse this application?". You might want to think about the answer and consequences of a refusal.

Here are some of the questions that maybe asked during interview (Family Class - spousal sponsorship cases):

1. When and where did you meet your spouse for the first time?
2. How did you meet your spouse?
3. How old is your spouse? What is your spouse's birth date?
4. What does your spouse do for a living?
