It seems our timeline is similar. My application first was received by CIC in mid December 2014, then my husband's sponsor status was approved in early March and my application was transferred to HK Visa office on March 5. Today on the CIC website checking my application status, it still indicates 'Application Received'. I just received yesterday an email letter from HK visa office asking for three things to be submitted within 30days,
- the police Cert
- credible evidence of our plan to establish in Canada
- credible evidence that we have begun to sever our ties to HK

I am surprised I was given 30 days only to provide them the three information above. Fortunately I am in HK this week (my job requires frequent travel) and I have gone to the HK police apply for the police Cert today (the process is straightforward and only takes within 10 mins). The staff told me the police cert will be sent to the Visa Office within 4 weeks and should be able to catch the 30 days requirement.

Has anyone been asked to provide those two types of evidence? any tips?

Does any one has a clue what will likely happen as next step after I have submitted the policy cert and the two other evidence requested by the Visa office? is my impression correct that the next step should be COPR issuance meaning I will be approved for a landing visa?

I wonder if I should write to ask the HK visa office about next step and rough idea on timeline of my application?

In addition, anyone has a clue if a landing visa is approved, is there a minimum expiry period for you to land in Canada?

I submitted my medical check upfront with my application. My medical check was conducted on November 22, 2014. I understand a landing visa's expiry date seems to tie with your medical check date, should I target I may get my landing visa before November 22 this year?

thanks for any sharing and tips :D
Smile1212,

I am not sure even if you write to HKVO, they will tell you your application progress. Yes your medical exam's expiry date determines your landing visa's expiry date, but I have heard some people having theirs extended by a VO for a few months.

After you applied for the HK police cert, did you tell CIC (via case enquiry form) that the HK police will take up to 4 weeks to process? I wonder if it's possible to ask CIC for deadline extension.

Sorry about confusion. this is not a email received from CIC for requesting Police certificate.

It is a paragraph I copy it from CIC website, a section regarding Police Certificate.

seems don't need to submit Police Certificate for the time being in Canada.

in my application, I only submit a Police certificate from China. I wanna confirm that I really don't need to submit one from Canada.

Martinzx,

I am confused too, so have you submitted a police cert from Canada after getting this email?

My police cert request did not have the same wording as yours, it just says "Police Certificate: From each country/state where the

residence period has been six months or longer since the age of 18, provide an original police clearance

certificate from Hong Kong SAR."

so I am planning to supply the police cert from BOTH Hong Kong and Canada.

Bukeluke,

You could submit a case-specific enquiry form to HKVO and ask if they are waiting for your HK police cert. Perhaps they will take a look at your case thereafter.
May I know where I can find this form to send? Thanks!

The reason I did provide a police certificate from Canada......any thoughts?

From CIC website

""""""Police certificates

You and your family members who are 18 years of age and older and are not permanent residents or Canadian citizens must provide:

valid police certificate, or
police clearance, or
record of no information.
These documents are to be provided for each country other than Canada, in which you have lived for six (6) consecutive months or longer since reaching the age of 18."""""
My experiences of calling CIC four different times, answered by four different agents, they say they will do the Canada criminal record check on their own so no need to provide it, unless they find something skeptical then they will ask you for further info (digital finger prints Canada criminal record).

Benitaagogo and Martinzx,
Same here, the CIC agent told me that I don't need to submit the Canada criminal record check as they will self verify.
But when I emailed CIC (case specific form), they did not reply to clarify, so what if they wanted the one from Canada and I "assumed" I dont need and not send it? Unless they reply me in email telling me I dont need one from Canada, I am thinking to submit one from Canada anyway.

Benitaagogo,
Did you submit a digital finger prints criminal record check from Canada when you submitted your application though?

Thanks for the confirmation.
last year when I was about to send the application, I was thinking to include one anyway, but didn't do it as it took 2 weeks or more in Vancouver to get a Police Certificate, didn't want to slow the whole process.
that's good to submit one, just in case.

I just got an email asking to redo med and submit police certificate.

For the police certificate part, it reads "Police Certificate: From each country/state where the
residence period has been six months or longer since the age of 18, provide an original police clearance certificate from Hong Kong SAR."

So even though I have not travelled to HK for more than 6 months since the age of 18 (I have been living and studying in Canada and travelled to HK sometimes but always less than 1-2 months), I still have to submit a police cert from HK.

Has anyone had similar experience? If so, did you provide another RCMP Criminal Record Check (in my case, I already provided it with the application) in addition to getting a police cert from HK?

Thanks!
My wife is the exact same situation. We got the exact same wording as your email, but they also SAID to include the RCMP check. Here is a copy and paste of my email.

> Police Certificate: From each country/state where the residence period has been six months or longer since the age of 18, provide an original police clearance certificate from Hong Kong. This must be received at this office by: 2015/09/05
> RCMP Criminal Record Check: If your residence period in Canada has been six months or longer since the age of 18, provide a certified criminal record check. This must be received at this office by: 2015/09/05
She was never there in HK for more than 6 months since 18 as she was studying here. The longest she's been back was maybe about 4-5 months. We did the digital fingerprint at a third-party approved CIC police check vendor for RCMP and HK. HK instructions advise to do the digital finger print at approved police force, but I figured if CIC said the third-party is ok, and third-party advised they have process them before, we stayed with this vendor. We applied for a Certificate of No Conviction from HK , and courier the application to HK Police HQ. They require a bank draft of $210 HKD. Gave them about 2 weeks time, and I sent an email to HK Police HQ to request received confirmation, then printed the email that shows confirmation from HK Police HQ, and attached it to the rest of the information CIC requested, and couriered to CIC.

If they didn't say to do the RCMP check, then I think you don't have to.

One weird thing is, they never asked for up to date medical. My wife's medical is expired for sure. I wonder if I should get my wife to re-do the medical and send it....

Seems like they might be wrong as they don't communicate between different departments. They will request for it if it is required.

Hi Bambooc, I'm with you! My application was received by CIC on Nov 14 and my AOR2 was on March 3. Nothing has happened since then. I'm a mainland applicant (Beijing case based on location but directly forwarded to HK after DM1). I'm wondering whether I should request ATIP 调档..

Benitaagogo,
Did you submit a digital finger prints criminal record check from Canada when you submitted your application though?
I did submit a paper finger prints one and another criminal record check that actually says there's no crimes found matches my name.

I had got them before I phoned CIC, by then I thought I had to submit the criminal record check of Canada, otherwise I wouldn't submit it because if they are not the type of criminal record check CIC wants if needed.

The paper finger prints one is a joke, it's just all my finger prints on a piece of paper, because the RCMP here has no clue what CIC wants........then it just didn't seem right so I went for a second time, paid second time for another kind of criminal record check and got the result actually shows the criminal history, is that CIC wants? I don't think so, they will ask you to get a digital finger prints if they want, does it help to attach it with my application? I don't know, but it has spent me about 70 CAD on getting both of them and the time to go back and forth, since there's no refund I'd better attach them with my application at least it makes me feel a bit better.

But seriously if I knew I don't have to, I won't, it's frustrating to dealt with the RCMP here......unless you can actually talk into RCMP for getting a digital fingerprints for sure and it will make you feel better to submit it with your application otherwise just let CIC do the work in my opinion.

I do not think it is necessary to request ATIP note now as it will take 30 days to process. And by the time you have your notes on hand, your case may be in process.
I have also contacted my member of parliament to inquire about my case. If I receive anything, I will share the information with you.
