Hey Mobeyk,

That is a good tip, with comments form Facebook pics. Just after I returned home, I posted some pics from our wedding celebration party in China, and I have quite many comments on those. I would have never thought of that. I will do this for the June visit for HK. Thanks again for the tip.

Hi Everyone,

Im so excited to see this HK timeline disscussion. I have been waiting for this!

Here is the short version of our story.

I am Canadain and my husband is Nigerian. We have been married for almost 6 years and have a 18month old daughter and I am pregnant with twins.
We all live in Guangzhou.
We sent in our application in May2011 and it was approved and sent to HK in June 2011. We recieved a letter at the end of June stating that the hk office had recieved our application. Since then we have not recieved any information. I check e-cas weekly and this past week it went from "application recieved" to "in process" so I guess that is a good sign. If it takes the whole 19 months we will hopefully be approved by Dec 2012. The twins are due in Aug/Sept so I am praying that we get approved SOON so I can go home to have the babies.

My fingers are crossed for eveyones fast approvals

Hi Robyn,

It seems that you have a straight forward case, so it should be sooner than the usual 19 months for 80% of the cases.

However, did you think writing them a cover letter explaining the situation, including the due time for the twins. This may speed up your app.
Or, you being a canadian citizen, should be no problem you coming home and delivering the twins.
As I read through this forum, I understood that when the e-cas changes from "App.recived" to "In Progress", this means that they are close to finalizing your file, so you may hear from them soon.

By the way, my wife is from Guangzhou as well. Been there twice so far.

Good luck.

Thanks Marty- Did you like GZ? Good luck with your application

I emailed them an update that we were pregnant and a copy of the ultrasound so I am hoping that will help.

Unfortunatly I cant go to Canada to have the babies because I would need to be there at least 3 months before the birth and stay for 6 months out of the calender year to be eligable for BC medical and if I do that I will lose my Chinese resident permit and because my husband is on my permit he would have to leave China and therefore we would have to withdraw his application for perminent residence in HK.

So if we get approved before June we will move to Canada right away but any longer than that I will have to have the babies here. AHHHHH

Having your babies born in China is fantastic. My wife gave birth at a private hospital, and the experience was amazing...first class all the way...probably better than Canada.

Good luck!

FS

Depends what hospital, I was in hospitals in China working in the medical industry and doctors were smoking in the surgery room with the patient lying on the bed, then took a second to hock a nice loogie on the floor, no joke.

Hey robyn,

Well, like FS says, if you have to deliver there, just go to a good private hospital, and I am sure you will be just fine. But choose a good quality one. I have been to day clinic there last summer and I was not impressed (I think it was University Clinic) as I had a small problem with my back.
How did I like Gz ? Well, put it this way, there are very nice and top notch areas and there are not so nice areas throughout the city, specially in older districts. But I was impressed. Overall a positive experience. There are many things to be said and here is not the place.
Keep us posted.

Hey Robyn,

Can't you go to provinces such as AB to give birth and stay there for at least 6 months? As a new resident, you get medical coverage right away.

Finally got the original police certificate. Its just a few lines and a seal. Paying the fee and looking again over all the paperwork. Its massive. Send it off Monday or Tuesday as its Easter here. Good luck to all. Sponsorship processing time is up to 75 days.

Mobyk...how did your wife get the original??? No matter what we tried, they would not give it to us!!! Maybe it's just the notary office in Guangzhou that's difficult...but from what my wife knows, supplying CIC with the notarized copy is fine...never heard of anyone having any issues...

Your wife must have some serious negotiation skills!!!

FS

Yes, she is a fighter. Not that it makes a difference as obviously the notarized copy works too. That's why I chose her as the Queen of our household.:)
Going over forms a last time now instead of Easter egg hunt, hunting for eggs in the forms. Just saw that there is a new version of the Sponsor checklist, Dingers........

Hi guys

So I contacted my MP, for North Vancouver, and within a week I got this responce today.

I have spoken with Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) about your husband's application, and here is the summary of the information that they gave me.

- Spousal sponsorship application received in Hong Kong in May 2011
- April 19, 2012: the medical will expire, so a new medical will be needed.
- March 26, 2012: the application has received positive selection, which means that CIC has recognized that your relationship is genuine.
- The background check for your husband has not been finalized yet.

This have given me hope so I think it is a great idea to get in contact with your MP if you have been waiting for a while.

Now my question is do we re-do the medical now or wait for the request?
Also does anyone know if you have to do a new police certificate after a year?

Hope everyone is well
Robyn

That sounds exciting. I have played with the thought too to approach my MP once we are a few months into stage two. I think they request a medical after one year is over. I am not sure but I have read that you need a police certificate again. Maybe someone else can help out. You will get to hear good news within the next one or two months.

The 2011 case processing time data was recently released by CIC. For spouses, partners and children the data by Visa Office is:
Hong Kong: 20% of cases completed within 7 months, 30% in 8 mo., 50% in 11 mo., 70% in 16 mo., 80% in 19 mo.
