hey guys, I am not able to log in to my CIC account these two days. I am sure I typed in the correct information like I always do but I just couldn't log in. I even tried it with my husbands account, it still didnt work.

This is happening right after my passport been sent for a week. I wonder if they finished processing the case, would they take down my account login to CIC?

Thanks in advance.

No. The information remains in E-Cas for some time after that. I'd guess it's either system maintenance or some sort of glitch. Nothing to worry about though - it'll likely just start working again later in the week.

Hi everyone,

My COPR has arrived!!
It took me in total around 6 months to complete my application, counting from the date i send my application to CIC in Mississauga.
The Hong Kong office is working at a very efficient rate. I am really grateful it came through so fast!!
Best of luck to those who are still waiting for results and Thank you so much for all of your help!!

Best,
Claudia

Congrats to you Claudia, that was fast

i am in the process of filling out the application
Me and my wife got married in december 2012 and i am applying her to come
She is from Hong Kong and i am Canadian

Couple of questions and would really appreciate that you can help me out

1. when i send the documents to prove my relationship (like letters, joint bank account information, tax receipts), do i send photocopies or the original documents ?

2. lets say if i submit the application on March 1st, 2013, and for example if the visa office approves on Dec 1st, 2013, does my wife need to come IMMEDIATELY OR March 1st, 2014 is the deadline for her to come? Can she come in April instead ? (her parents 65 years old birthday is in april)

i read from other topics looks like she needs to come BEFORE her medical exam expiration date (which means 1 year, ), is that true ?
what if the application itself took longer than 1 year to proceed ?

Thanks a lot for helping me out

Hong Kong is getting faster and faster. When I applied back in April 2012, the timeline for HK was at 19 months. A few months later it dropped to 18 months. Now it is at 13 months...so a big improvement.

As for your questions, I encourage you to read through the immigration forms to find answers to your questions. For example, the question about original documents...you can find the answer by reading the guide / checklist where it clearly answers that question. Most documents do not need to be original, but do some reading and you will find the answers.

The second question is more obvious. The visa expiration date is the one year anniversary of the medicals your wife had to do, or if the expiration date of your wife's passport is earlier than the expiration date of the medical (assuming the visa and COPR have been issued). Again, check the guides...

If the application goes beyond the one year anniversary of the medical, they may request you to redo the medical or if that is the only thing holding up the approval, they can grant an extension as per the new regulations released last year regarding medicals.

Based on other cases, if you have a strong case and you have prepared a thorough application package, you should be able to finish everything (including sponsorship approval) within 6 months. Back in April 2012, it was taking 3 months for sponsorship approval, so that caused a lot of delays for people. The actual issuance of the visa (for our case) took less than 2 months...so if the sponsorship approval is fast, you could be done in about 4.5 months.

Read those guides and do some more research...that's the best thing for you and you can learn more about the process.

Like fencesitter said Hong Kong is going a lot faster if there are no redflags. From handing in, to getting a passport request took only 83 days.

thanks a lot Fencesitter ... i missed the Information package guide inititally so i missed quite a lot of things
but now i am caught up to speed.

one quick question ( i think it is pretty confusing)
in the document checklisk - it said please include the original police certificate and other docuemtns etc

however, i read that in order to get the PC, you need to get a letter from the Canadian Consulate General first

so does that mean i submit the application BEFORE i get the PC (assume they will send my wife a letter to request it later on in the process)?

and is it true the PC will valid for 6 months or 1 year ?

thanks a lot

The police certificate depends...are you a HK citizen? If so, I think they request the police clearance later in the process. If you are applying from mainland China, include EVERY document at the time you submit your application package to CIC-M. Even if you are from HK, I'd check to see if it's okay to submit EVERY document at once, instead of waiting for the HK visa office to request the police cert later on. It will save a lot of time if the visa office has all documents together, because there will be no need to send out any requests, thus cutting down the overall processing time.

You're lucky to be going through the HK visa office. They are extremely efficient these days, so as long as your case is prepared well and you have lots of proof, it should be very quick and easy.

The landing part is nothing...just a few questions to confirm what is on the COPR (name, marital status, criminality, etc).

Hello. New to the forum. I am a Canadian citizen and my fiancee is from Hong Kong. I am wondering what is the best plan to sponsor her to Canada. I have gotten her to submit an application for a working holiday visa.

My thinking is that we get married in Canada and then apply outland through the HK visa office. But will she be able to do that while on the working holiday visa? Or are we better off doing an inland application while she is on her working holiday visa? Ability to work is very important for my fiancee.

When the Hong Kong office asks for our passport does tha mean that the interview has been waived? And if they ask for your passport does that mean you have your visa for sure?

99.9999999% certain that you will get your visa. They don't usually ask for your passport if they are going to turn around and reject you. No worries...

So long story short, my wife and I walked to the post office this morning to grab the package from the Canadian Embassy in Hong Kong. So we got there and opened it up and all the original documents were there, plus her passport and a her COPR. My wife couldn't stop jumping up and down, and in China that gets a lot of stares, plus I am white to boot.

So my time line was;
Application sent: 15 Nov. 2012
Sponsorship Approval: 1 Dec. 2012
AOR from Hong Kong:10 Dec. 2012
PPR + extra info (birth certificate): 08 Feb. 2013
Passpot Sent: 25 Feb. 2013
COPR issued: 05 March 2013
Passport Back in Hand: 13 March 2013
Landing: 07 July 2013

So from App sent to COPR issued: 111 days total, which looks like a record for the Hong Kong VO, or at least that is what my wife's website is saying.

And one final thing I am very happy with how quickly Hong Kong got it all done. 16 month VO done in less then 4 months. My wife and I must be in the top 10%.

Congratulations! You are so lucky that the stage 1 processing time was quick. We had to wait about 90 days!!!! If it weren't for that, we would have been done as fast as you...and yes, HK is amazingly efficient! I have nothing but positive things to say about the whole process.
