I see.. Thank you so much for telling me this. I phoned CRA last night and my "Option C Print Out" are on the way coming !!

By the way, if there is anyone needs to call CRA out of Canada and US, here is the phone number: 1-613-940-8495
and please prepare your latest taxes file information, the agents will happy to assist you!!

According to CRA (I spoke to an agent who helped her husband immigrate to Canada), CIC is only interested in the latest tax returns (e.g. 2012 or 2011). They will not care about a return filed in 2008 because it is irrelevant for their purposes of determining if you are currently on welfare. As long as you show proof that you are employed and earning money, that's good enough and you shouldn't have any problems.

I didn't include an Option C, only my current employment status with notarized tax returns from China along with statements of earnings from my employer (note that submitting notarized tax returns from a foreign country is unnecessary, but something I believed would help bolster my case).

Hi guys,

Here is an update on my status, I have received my passport request earlier this week and hopefully I will receive COPR soon.

I do have a question though, I am planning to travel out of Canada in April but I am not sure if I get my PR card by that time. So if I havent get my PR card yet, can i still leave Canada and come back?

Thanks!

Yes, you can. You will either need to have someone send your PR card to you, or you will need to apply for a PR travel document. You only need the PR card in order to come BACK to Canada.

Thanks FS

But now things are quite complicated on my case... I don't work at Hong Kong, my husband (he is a certified Accountant) is the only one working to support our family, I have no income personally.

Do I still qualify to be the sponsor for the sponsorship immigration??

All you need to show is that you and your husband (and children) won't require social assistance. I've seen a number of sponsors in exactly your situation successfully sponsor their spouse/partner.

You may wish to investigate what will be involved in your husband obtaining certification in Canada, as that may very well gate his ability to find a good paying job here.

Congrats to you for landing Fencesitter. Your PR card will arrive at the address you have on file within 60-70 days. Ours took 65 and arrived just 2 days before my wifes flight date. She is of course back to China for the spring festival.

Thank you Ttcdfolk and computergeek

We don't have children, So I guess it will be easier for us to pass the financial request and it makes my case quite clear now!!

Your PR card can be sent to you or you need a travel document for returning residents from the canadian embassy or in main land china from the visa processing center. You need all your documents that proof your permanent residence status ( COPR, Passport with Visa ). More info here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/travel.asp

Thanks, mobeyk. Landing was a breeze and everyone was extremely friendly, except for the rep from C.A.N.N.

We're still pretty jet lagged, but being home in Canada for the first time in eight years is fantastic. Everyone we have met has been very friendly...even the drunks on the street...

Hopefully the PR card arrives quickly so we don't need to apply for the travel document when we go to leave China for good in the summer.

It's hard to believe this is all over and my wife is now one step closer to becoming a Canadian citizen.

Good luck and have a great life in Canada!!
