OP - This is key. And to be honest it sounds more and more like there really was no hope for reconciliation and both you and your spouse knew it before you landed. You were fortunate to be able to land and not technically misrepresent yourself on landing. You have been quite lucky so far. I feel you may be pushing your luck here if you decide to push for separation/divorce ASAP. It certainly sounds like your in-laws will stop at nothing to get you out and pushing this ASAP will actually help them

If they want you out of the country, it might be a good idea to pretend to them that you are leaving and let them find out in time (or not) that you haven't. Give them the address of some relative back home to send your mail to if they receive any. They will be happy thinking they won and you will be even happier. Moving from the address known to them to some other apartment or even another part of town might be a good idea.

If you feel that you must initiate the legal separation now in order to get your share, just be aware that if they put in a complaint against you and immigration starts to investigate, it looks bad for you. It doesn't matter if your marriage was not a marriage of convenience. It is a question of the marriage possibly having ended before you landed and if you should have reported that to them when you landed.
That is the idea , they believe that I am going back home and that the divorce certificate will be mailed to me at that relatives address which is why this whole PR issue hasn't been raised between that and them having the first set of COPR papers that had been sent and them being close to expiring . However, Both of us are waiting for this separation agreement to be dealt with and put in writing so that there are no further discussions or misunderstandings about this for me to then "pick up and leave ". Originally his dad was dealing with the separation issue and the agreement as well but he started making things complicated and wanting it his way or no way and it was becoming a mess so I had to leave that residence.. he basically wanted to make sure i ended up with nothing in the end so my spouse took over the situation and decided that we would do have our own agreement and this is where we are at now ....

I like this suggestion . . . and don't forget to send them a postcard (postmarked in Canada) 3 or 4 years later. Hehehe!

Does anyone know if there is a way they would be able to find out where and who I crossed the border with upon landing if they wanted to look into it once they become aware I'm a PR?

No, they are not privy to this information. The only thing they MIGHT be able to 'gather' together would be which border crossing you landed at, but that is all they could potentially glean.

Eventually you will have to face them. What is your fear where you have hide so much details about your life? You have landed and there is not much they can do unless they can prove that you misrepresented yourself at the border. Note that your sponsor can find the address that your PR card is getting mailed to. My wife's address updated on eCAS to the address she provided at the border.

I find it interesting that you would be concerned about "who I crossed the border with". Is this likely to pose a problem if it was found out? Could it possibly contaminate the "purity" of your landing?

I've recently been through alot with this family ... There is no fear in hiding details of my life. All we are talking about here is keeping my address private ( ecas details have been removed online) and my overall PR status and it be affected in anyway. I was kept so out of the loop before that I like to make sure I know the steps and my rights from here forth, Just have my facts gathered rather than hide in the dark .

No it wouldn't . But like I mentioned earlier before I don't drive and my best friend and I crossed together ... Although it's no secret that there are marital issues I still try to remain on the conservative side , certainly don't want to give anyone a headache by dragging them into my marital issues at the moment.

I assume things like joint accounts, photos, both names on a lease, etc. I wouldn't worry too much about it. They normally don't go around checking up on you unless they suspect something (like being reported by someone)
