Hi all. We are trying to adopt a child from overseas and appreciate any advice to get through the CIC roadblock.
We have been waiting for the approval for Part 1 Confirmation of Canadian citizenship of the adoptive parent(s) for almost 6 months now. We have been told that it is straight forward and should take about 3 months. We are born in Canada and have no complicated records.
However, it is now taking so long that the overseas government is done with the paperwork and we cannot officially accept the adoption because we do not have the CIC approval for Part 1! For the last few months, we have been calling every week, but the agent says that there is nothing they can do. They have been tagging it as an 'escalation', but it does not seem to make a difference. It has been so long that the initial escalation expires and they are now tagging it 'escalation' again. We have even asked to speak to the supervisor, but the answer is the same where there is nothing they can do besides tagging it to escalate. There is no reason for a Part 1 application to be held up, so it looks like something is wrong, and no one seems to be able to look into it.
Does anyone have any advice on anything that we can do or who we can contact to be able to do something about this? Has anyone experienced issue with the simple Part 1 application?
Thank you in advance for any advice.
