Hello everyone,

I could use some guidance on the best next steps.

We’ve just received the passport request (PPR) for my wife’s TRV (visitor visa). Meanwhile, her spousal PR application is in the final stages.

I have a couple of questions:

1- Is it okay to get the TRV stamped now, and then later, when we receive the PR PPR, get that stamped as well? After that, she would travel and land as a permanent resident. Would this be a problem.

2- If we get the TRV stamped but later receive the PR PPR and don’t get it stamped, and she travels to Canada on her TRV—can she still do virtual landing from within Canada without any issues?

So overall, should we:

Send the passport now for TRV stamping, and wait for the PR approval to follow?
Or would you recommend waiting it out for PR PPR instead?

1. Yes possible but she could also just wait for the PPR for PR. Your choice.
2 Yes this is possible. She should update her address as soon as she enters Canada to hopefully join the eCOPR queue and prevent any delays changing processing to in Canada not abroad.

Hey. One more question if you could kindly guide, in case #2 if she travels to Canada while she already got her copr/ppr for pr, and she does virtual landing in Canada, would ircc change her copr no.? As I read somewhere that ircc changes the app from outland to inland, so would they change her copr number and give her a new one? And approx how much delay would this cause?

They do not change it from outland to inland - just the landing process. I doubt they change the COPR#, but that's internal to them.

Note though - the 'virtual' landing process in Canada and changing it to the internal landing process might be considerably longer than waiting and getting it stamped in Canada. No way to know in advance. If it's important for your spouse to have access to ability to work and health insurance as soon as landing, that might be a preferable route.

Thank you for your detailed response, regarding ability to work, can’t she apply for SOWP while she waits for her pr?

Errata correction above: I wrote 'waiting and getting it stamped in Canada' - that should have read 'outside Canada'.
