We know that he can't leave the country. We have done all we can. We were just not aware that the OWP pilot did not count people who where out of status.
My husband has been through 2 immigration lawyers. One was a fantastic lawyer and the other one was a crook. The lawyer was the cousin of the owner of the last company he had a closed work permit with who was suppose to submit his Skilled Worker Permanent Residency. The first lawyer he dealt with was fluent in French, English, and German. She was even once an immigration officer and specialized in studying it. She had mostly everything put together complete with proper translations and forms.
ONE of the conditions the company put on him was he had to use their "company" immigration lawyer. He went along with it and sent the paperwork to Toronto, (we live in Calgary, AB btw). My husband paid him $5000 in full to do his Skilled Worker Permanent Residency. What happened after was, the lawyer would every 2 or 3 months email him and say, sorry I need this done or this is missing. He did it on purpose. In fact a couple guys from Philippines and China where forced back home. Same story with them. They paid this lawyer in full and he never submitted their paperwork.
The only reason his company extended his WP a second time was because they desperately needed my husband. Without him they were SOL. The company went down exactly a year after that extension NOV 2013.
We looked for months for a job for him, he had to turn down 6 companies because they didn't have the LMO to have them work for their company. His WP was running out in NOV 2014 and that is when we knew it was better to apply for PR sooner than later. We requested that the Immigration Lawyer return his documents which took a couple of months. We started paperwork June 2014 and had to wait to get him a recent police check from Germany which took over 2 months. We then were finally able to submit the paperwork Sep 2014.
I graduated from my course March 2014 and started working at the hospital April 2014. Absolutely no money to pay for a lawyer. We got in contact and consulted the amazing lawyer he had in Calgary for a couple hundred and went from there.
