has anyone ever ran into any problems or stresses while under "implied status"?

just wondering if anyone has had any problems ever with immigration officers or anything at all while under implied status?

maybe just worrying for nothing, but it does feel a bit stressful having nothing on paper showing status

I am on implied status since April 20th and have no written doc. saying that i am.. I did apply for my extended stay before my status expired but have not got AOR from immigration yet. it takes 4 months for process by mail. I keep checking online using my fee receipt number to check if im in system but nothing yet. Once I get AOR for my extended stay that's my proof of implied status but until then all i have is the fee receipt to show.

Your receipts are proof until you receive AOR. Unless you plan on leaving the country you won't have any issues.

I applied for an extension of my tourist visa for that reason - and it went pretty quickly. My status ran out early March, I applied online two or so days before, and I received my extension till 01/17 two days ago. Helps a lot with anxiety! ;)

Hi vaya, May I know how long did you request for? Did you apply 30 days before? I'll be applying soon for extension and I'll be requesting 7 months at least. Would that be acceptable? Or the max is just 6 months? Thanks!

but if you have implied status for OWP, you aren't supposed to apply for tourist visa, right?

Sorry, there might be a bit of confusion about my post. I am visa exempt, but applied for an extension of my visitor status (within Canada) while I am waiting to hear back from CIC (Inland app). I added a letter to my application for extension stating that in case there is a problem with my application and they send it back (meaning that once they return it I'd be out of status and would not be eligible anymore for OWP) I would like to still have status within Canada. I think they didn't mind because I just made sure I'm never in Canada without status. I also added a copy of my PR application receipt to prove them that I really did apply. So far all good, they gave me the extension.

PS: If you're still within your 90 after expiration (and from one of the countries that have this deal with Canada) I bet that you can apply as well if you want to be safe.

Thanks vaya for the information. This is going to be my first extension to complete 1 year cohabitation for sponsorship. I'll try to add a letter too and ask if I could have it extended for at least 7 months. Did you ask for specific period of extended stay? Since you're visa exempt, how long have you been staying here before you applied for the extension? Even for visa exempt, I believe the maximum stay is still 6 months. Was that your first application for extension? I heard that they're lenient for first extension but they are likely to refuse the following ones that's why I'm a bit worried.

This was just my first application for extension, but I hope to have the OWP within the next few months anyways. I didn't ask for a specific period, but my passport runs out April 2017 so I expected it to be somewhere between 6 and 12 months from now. I was in Canada for almost 6 months (end of visa exempt time frame) and then applied - however, our case is a bit different since we got married and don't need the cohabitation for common law purposes. Are you visa exempt? I'd never tried it before and am crossing fingers I won't have to again...

Thanks vaya, that's great. Unfortunately, I am not visa exempt. I don't know what to put in the application form because there's a field there "indicate how long you plan to stay." I'm not sure what to put in that field.

You can say that you are planning to apply for sponsorship but need to meet the 1 year cohabitation. There's nothing wrong with that. Start getting joint bank accounts, joint bills (for your application.) And for the extension prove that you have enough money to stay without working illegally.
