Leon said:If you are an international student in Canada, you first have to study for 6 months before you can apply for an off campus work permit and it takes another couple of months to get it so you are already in Canada for quite some time before you start looking for a part time job. To find a fast food job, you can both try internet and also just looking at places you pass by to see if they are hiring. They will usually have a sign outside. If they do, even if they don't, you can go in and ask about a job and fill out an application.
Canada has a fast job market and also a fast housing market. Many countries have a 3 month notice period to quit your job or to leave a rented apartment but in Canada you can quit your job with 2 weeks notice and once your lease is up, you can leave your apartment with 1 month notice. Canada does not have a strong social safety net like many countries in Europe so you have to make sure you stay employed. Canadians have no problem moving across the country to find a job so if you lose your job, you can have a new one fast, new apartment fast and new friends fast in your new town but even with this speed in society, Canadians are still relaxed and laid back. Nobody is getting very excited or impatient either when driving or when waiting in line somewhere. I think I should also mention the health care system because in most provinces you pay no fee to be covered and even when you do, it is low. Going to the doctor costs you nothing and medication is not very expensive. The school system is also good. I give Canada 4 points out of 5, only because no country is perfect.
You can't work for about 7-8 months because there are 6 months of studies and then 1-2 months waiting to get your work permit. Immigration requires you to have $10,000 to get a study permit anyway. That is supposed to last you for that time.zestyaman said:GREAT INFO BUDDY !! ITS QUITE HELPFUL IN ACCESSING THE SITUATION , 4 POINTS OUT OF 5 IS REALLY A GOOD SCORE . Some people do jobs on cash basis which is illegal. If you get caught doing that, you can be deported, even banned from Canada for two years and it would be hard for you to get any kind of temporary permit again like a study or a work permit if you have shown that you don't care to follow the rules.
How much you have to go to college depends on your college and your course load. Your college will decide how many classes you have to take to be listed as a full time student. I think that would usually be around 5 - 6 hours a day of classes but then there is homework. If you are on a student work permit, allowed to work for 20 hours a week, you could work on the weekends or some evenings of the week.
There is always a chance of rejection. If you have sufficient funds and good English, it wont be for those reasons but they might still say that you could overstay and they might also be suspicious if you already have a higher degree like masters and are looking for a lower degree, like a diploma.sagarmehta1989 said:Hello Leon, I am Sagar Mehta. I completed my masters in biomedical genetics in India. Now I applied to Centennial college in Food Science technology (Advanced diploma). I got offer letter. I am preparing for visa file now. Is there any chance of visa rejection in my case?? I am medically fit and gonna show about 9 lakhs of loan and 5 lakhs of income. My IELTS score overall is 7.0 not less than 6.5 in each module.. Is there any chance of rejection just because I have completed masters and going for Advanced diploma?? I am really confused.
