hmm. They will either enter "Passed" when all done with Eligibility or "In progress" when they ask for docs or interview. The "Notes" section will indicate that.
Can they transfer to VO w/o assessment?

Hi BCGirl: "In progress" when they ask for docs or interview"".......?? How do you know "in progress" mean they ask for docs or 'interview'....??

If they say: File Status: OPEN and File Status Reason: "In progress" ....... does that mean they will ask for docs or interview?? One of my friends had this "in progress" in his file and lately landed. He was never asked any docs or interview throughout his entire process!! It took only 9 months - for total processing....!! How would you explain this example ?? I really don't understand - all this comments in the GCMS record.....Very mysterious indeed !!

Nothing mysterious about this part, actually. It really depends on when the GCMS notes were printed. It's the procedure. If nothing is needed for eligibility and the IO is satisfied, then they need to mark the field as PASSED. If some more info from the applicant or other authorities is needed and they have started the Eligibility assessment, but haven't finished yet, then it's marked In Progress.

I don't know about your friend's specific file. It might be the date of the printed file (done before decision was reached) or another unlikely explanation is they forgot to update it. (Haven't heard this one, to be honest, but I guess it can happen.)

I am assuming you are referring to the GCMS notes and not eCAS. Because "In Process" in eCAS is a totally different game and not quite a dependable source of information.

Thank you much, BCgirl2012: I appreciate your time. Yes, I was talking about GCMS notes. I don't trust ECAS at all. It was saying "You application for...............have been received on May, 2012" and now it is saying "Your application for ..............have been received on August, 2012". Actually I was approved on August, 2012. Very annoying in deed.

Further, I find in my GCMS notes: Eligibility, Criminality, Security: NOT STARTED and Medical: PASSED under Assessments. What does this NOT STARTED mean. If they have received the application in August 2012 and until February 2013, NOT STARTED. Not a happy news.

under Application Assignment: due date: 2013/01/27. What does this due date mean? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Anyone that can help, it would be appreciated. Recently got the GCMS notes for my wife. Near the end in the "Notes" section it says:

"FBC for pa not sent pending screening request for child"

This note was dated almost 2 month ago and we got no other information. We do have a dependent child include in the application. CIC has both their passports. Does anyone have any idea what this means? What is FBC ?

Thanks :)

My guess is FBC=full birth certificate.

Hi,

Don't think so. Both birth certificates were provided with the file.
Anybody else? How about "File Background Check" ?

Other info that may be relevant - meds just expired and may need extension, and looks like security checks were remaining.

I ordered my notes. In the notes, eligibility and medical are passed. I had a passport request from the embassy ten days ago. However, crimiality and security still show "not started". Could anybody enlight me what is going on here? Why they haven't had cirimiality and security started even if eligibility is passed and passport is requested? Thanks.

What's the date on your notes? I suspect it is BEFORE the PPR date and thus a VO picked up your file and reviewed it and obtained security checks back quickly enough they moved your file forward to the PPR stage.

For example, last year my notes were dated the same day as the PPR. I could see the VO's notes (at CPP-O) that all requirements were met (12 days earlier). The file was then transferred to LA; thus, the notes were pulled before the VO sent out the PPR e-mail. It can be all in the timing.

computergeek - I wonder if you, or others with China immigration experience have would have any idea/opinion of what is happening in my case.

Passports of wife and step-daughter sent to Beijing in Dec 2012. So they have had them > 4 months. Both meds expired Feb 2013. CIC requested return EMS waybill and additional resume in Feb 2013. Sent 2 months ago. Nothing about expired meds or anything else. Case specific enquiry of mine not responded to. Just got GCMS notes dated mid-March. Notes indicated eligibility passed, medicals passed-expired, criminality passed, note saying interview waived. Seems that possibly 2 things remain - security checks and medicals (extension or re-do request). Why would they have asked for the passports so early if they weren't ready to issue the visas? I will send another CS Enquiry. Opinion - is this just standard file bureaucracy and complicated by the medicals expiring ? 4 months since PPR for Beijing seems out of the ordinary ! This creates all kinds of anxiety as you can imagine. Thanks

It is a bit unusual, but they may have a surge in applications to handle. It sounds like perhaps the security checks may be the hold-up in this case and they might not have expected them to take so long - an officer could have ordered them expecting them to come back quickly but they're hung up for some reason.

It might be worthwhile submitting an ATIP request to CSIS about the security checks.

As for the medicals, they'll either request the extension or ask for you to re-do them. I sure hope the just extend them...

Thanks a lot for your reply! Do you know if CSIS ATIP requests can be made electronically ? From what I could see on-line, you have to mail in a cheque, no on-line payment. If we do this, what information should we request of them? Also, don't want to interfere and slow down processing for this. So I will probably wait a few weeks, do another CIC ATIP first of the GCMS and then re-assess if a CSIS ATIP request is necessary. But it is very good to know that we could get this information.

Much appreciated!

CSIS appears to only accept written requests.

See their web page about what's required: https://www.csis.gc.ca/tp/tp-eng.asp
