My friend, to have a work permit (that is not an open work permit), you need an LMO. Regardless of your title/occupation.

No, some jobs are exempt of LMO. Just check the HRSD website or CIC website.
I know for sure if you are postdoc, then you dont need one.

See if you need a LMO: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who-permit.asp

This particular category might be of interest to you:

Religious workers
People doing charitable or religious work.

I have tried to look through other people's posts but I can't seem to get a clear consensus for this:

Do you need to fill out the employment fields in the IMM5710E form when you're applying for an open work permit, even if you are currently employed? Secondly, are you essentially applying for the same employer or new employer in Question 3 of the form? The Instruction Guide by CIC is useless for this..

You do not need to include any employer details, location, type of job, etc. It's in the name: Open Work Permit. Second question is answered by the same logic. Employer does not play a role, those options are there for restricted work permits. Just choose the fourth option (initial or extension), that's what I did.

If you're still worried, in the explanation letter include:

- You're applying for OWP per Op. Bulletin 485
- A copy of your AOR letter
- A copy of your current work permit (they already have it but makes a nice package)

I got my Bridging Open Work Permit in the mail today!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Sent by paper application January 7th, got it on 26th March.

Congratulations!!!
So, just having an AOR and a work permit going to expire, right? Bc some people are making comments about AOR not being enough. And did you apply to same job, o new employer?

Thank you, Karioca. ;)
Of course the AOR alone is not enough. You need to be physically in Canada, have a valid wp at the moment that is going to expire within the next 4 months (my PGWP's date of expiry was February 16, which fell within that "4 months" period), combined together with the AOR, then you can apply for the Bridging Open WP.

My Post Graduate Work Permit is a type of Open Work Permit. So, same job with new employer OR different job with different employer didn't really matter in my case. I can work for any employer in any industry as I see fit.

As stated on this page: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2012/ob485.asp

The foreign national is currently in Canada;
They have valid status on a WP that is due to expire within 4 months;
They have received a positive eligibility decision on their PR application under one of the Economic Class programs above; and
They have made application for an open WP.

Yes, of course we need to follow those requirements. I also have applied. I'm in Canada, I received my AOR feb 27, and I sent the application online on the 28th. My WP is closed and it's going to expire on May 4th. I understood that I'm qualified for that too. I just saw people posting here that having received the AOR it doesn't mean that it was pre-approved. What makes me here to find out who has got it.
Good that you got it. And I'm waiting for mine.

Thisisauser is right.. you don't have to fill that out coz you are applying for a Bridging Open Work Permit.

I filled out my current employer information anyway (sent it by paper application) and included a letter stating what I'm applying for.
I find it easier to send in by paper (at least I can pen in remarks on the side if I need to). It may take a bit longer, but since I was going to be on implied status and work in the same conditions, what does it matter anyway?

Your case is slightly different from mine in that you currently have a closed work permit. I'm not sure what to tell you there.. But I think you will be fine. :)

Congrats shells. would you mind sharing with us if the open workpermit you got was 1 year or not

Yes, it's for one year.

Guys, don't forget to renew your SIN card after you get your wp later. It completely slipped my mind. Luckily I sent it to my HR and she asked me about it.
