Some good news in the middle of a disappointing processing for spousal sponsorship....
Congratulations to those that lobby for the changes

I don't see anything official from CIC, only an update on a change.org petition saying there was an update linking to a story that has nothing to do with CIC acting on this.

While it would be fantastic if they did in fact follow through with this, I would caution you all to hold your excitement as closely as you can. Why set yourself up for more disappointment from CIC if you don't have to.

When CIC makes a statement saying they are in fact doing this, then celebrate.

From CIC WEBSITE AS OF DEC 22, 2014
Effective December 22, 2014, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will commence issuing open work permits to certain spouse or common-law partner in Canada class (SCLPC) applicants before the approval in principle decision is made.

Applicants who have already submitted an application for permanent residence under the SCLPC class but have not yet applied for an open work permit should complete an Application to Change Conditions, Extend my Stay or Remain in Canada as a Worker (PDF, KB) (PDF, 452.86 KB) form [IMM 5710], include the appropriate fee, indicating that they are applying for an open work permit, and submit it to the Case Processing Centre in Vegreville, at the following address:

CPC – Vegreville
WP - Unit 777
6212-55 Avenue
Vegreville, AB
T9C 1X6

If an SCLPC applicant has already received approval in principle, they have the option of applying for an open work permit online.

New SCLPC applicants should complete a permanent residence application and an open work permit applications, include the appropriate fees, and submit both simultaneously to the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga.

CIC will begin issuing open work permits to eligible applicants in the current SCLPC inventory. SCLPC applicants whose permanent resident applications are received after December 22, 2014 will have their application for an open work permit processed within four months of receipt of their work permit application.

Standard medical requirements for open work permits apply.

After one year, CIC will assess this pilot and determine how to most effectively process open work permits for SCLPC applicants moving forward.

My Question is:

If we will submit application for inland spousal by january, it means they will only process OWP for my husband after 4 months? and do you guys know how long will it take before they issue the OWP? Thanks

Reading what you posted here my understanding is that yes, they will only process an OWP for your husband AFTER 4 months have passed from application receipt. Usually once they start the application process it only takes a couple weeks to get your OWP, but with all this changing, it's hard to tell if it will now take longer since there WILL be more applications to process.

Hello,

"New SCLPC applicants should complete a permanent residence application and an open work permit applications, include the appropriate fees, and submit both simultaneously to the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga."

If you haven't submitted your inland sponsorship, then you should include an OPW application TOGETHER with your inland sponsorship and send the whole package to CPC - Mississauga.

Only those who have submitted inland sponsorship to CPC - Mississauga BUT did not include OPW application, now you can send OPW application to CPC - VEGREVILLE. However, conditions of OPW grant still apply. You can visit this site:

You may be eligible to apply for an open work permit if you are in one of the following situations:

1.You are already working in Canada and your application for permanent residence has been approved under one of the following :
*Spouse or Common-law Partner in Canada class
*Live-in Caregiver Program
*Federal Skilled Worker Program
*Canadian Experience Class
*Provincial Nominee Program
*Federal Skilled Trades Program
humanitarian and compassionate grounds
*You may also be eligible if you are a family member of someone whose application for permanent residence has been approved under one of the above.
2. Your spouse is
*a skilled worker in an occupation under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill type 0, A or B ,
*a foreign student
*You are in Canada under a federal-provincial/territorial immigration agreement, including an active pilot project, or you are a spouse or dependent child of someone who is in Canada under a temporary foreign worker annex of a federal-provincial/territorial immigration agreement with an applicable pilot project.
3. You have a temporary resident permit valid for at least six months.
Does No. 3 means all visitors or student or workers who has a valid permit for 6 months can now apply for an open work permit?

We submitted the application last march and received an email from cic saying that they received our application package and gave us the application number. But unfortunately i didn't know that the OWP fee now is a total of $255 and we only paid $155 for the OWP. will they send our whole application package back? or can i re send the OWP application to vegreville and indicate the application number? coz it will take so much time if we will wait until they send our forms back. hope u guys can help me. thanks!
