I read that I need to get my criminal record (I don't have any records I am clean) from countries I have lived for more then 6 months since age 18. US Happens too be one of them. Is there information on how to get it? Do I need the Canadian Embassy to send me the sheet with the finger print documents for this? Or is there a print out online and just take it to the local police and have it done?

Thank you.

Here is the information you will need. You send for it to FBI in the US. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/north-america/united-states.asp

Thank you for the information.

Just to be 100% sure is this the correct information?

Submitting an Identification Record Request to the FBI

Step 1: Complete the Applicant Information Form.

If the request is for a couple, family, etc., all persons must sign the form.
Include your complete mailing address. Please provide your telephone number and/or e-mail address, if available.

Step 2: Obtain a set of your fingerprints.

Provide the original fingerprint card. Previously processed cards or copies will not be accepted.
Your name and date of birth must be provided on the fingerprint card. Fingerprints should be placed on a standard fingerprint form (FD-258) commonly used for applicant or law enforcement purposes.
Include rolled impressions of all 10 fingerprints and impressions of all 10 fingerprints taken simultaneously (these are sometimes referred to as plain or flat impressions).
If possible, have your fingerprints taken by a fingerprinting technician. This service may be available at a law enforcement agency.
To ensure the most legible prints possible, refer to the Recording Legible Fingerprints brochure.

Step 3: Submit payment.

Option 1: Obtain a money order or cashier’s check for $18 U.S. dollars made payable to the Treasury of the United States. Please be sure to sign where required.
Option 2: Pay by credit card using the Credit Card Payment Form. Don’t forget to include the expiration date of the credit card that you are using.
Important note: Cash, personal checks, or business checks WILL NOT be accepted.
Payment must be for the exact amount.
If the request is for a couple, family, etc., include $18 for each person.
If the request is for multiple copies per person, include $18 for each copy requested.

Step 4: Review the FBI Identification Record Request Checklist to ensure that you have included everything needed to process your request.

Step 5: Mail the required items listed above—signed applicant information form, fingerprint card, and payment of $18 U.S. dollars for each person or copy requested—to the following address:

FBI CJIS Division – Record Request
1000 Custer Hollow Road
Clarksburg, WV 26306

Note: Although the FBI employs the most efficient methods for processing these requests, processing times may take approximately five to six weeks depending on the volume of requests received.

Yep! That how it's done. You will need to have fingerprints taken locally. Make some inquiries where you live...usually a local police department or a private finger printing business. The FBI fingerprint form that they need to be done on can be downloaded from the FBI website.

Good luck with your application!

Thank you!

Just to make sure, things they require.

1. Fingerprinting form. - My finger printing goes here sheet.
2. APPLICANT INFORMATION FORM - states my address, where I live, where they should ship it too.
3. Credit Card Payment Form - Payment of $18 USD.
(4). Did You Remember To......? - this is a checklist I don't think I send this in.

I don't know what they mean by "Descriptive Data" & "Current fingerprint card—no older than 18 months."

Thank you once again.

The Descriptive Data, ignore. Just make sure they know it's for immigration. And current fingerprint card is what your finger prints will be on. All that is sent to FBI and then you wait. Takes up to 12 weeks to get back.

How do I let them know it's for immigration? The site says 5 to 6 weeks. I am sure it's longer!

You need a letter on top of it to say I'm applying for PR sponsorship with Canadian Immigration etc.

I just seen on one of the forms that it asks why do you request it. So I'll have to put a another letter on top of those and write "for PR Sponsorship with Canadian Immigration for the Canadian Embassy" Should I write please hurry and GOD BLESS CANADA? lol jk

Just write 'Canada Immigration' or 'Immigration To Canada'. Print the fingerprint card on stock paper and take it to nearest Police Station. They will take your fingerprints and print it on the finger print. Some Police Stations may use ink pad to put your fingerprints on the fingerprint card. It is also okay if police stations use the cards available with them.

FBI does not accept personal Checks. So make sure you send Cashier's Check or Money Order. You will get it back the FBI Clearance Letter with a record based on your fingerprints and if you have never been arrested you will be fine. On top of fingerprint card do fill up personal information (name, address, height, weight, eye color etc.). Mail completed application form, Fingerprint Card with fingerprints and payment. You can also order multiple Clearance Letters in Original , Just add $18.00 for each. Times posted on FBI website for processing are quiet accurate.

Application Form is available here. https://forms.fbi.gov/departmental-order-website-questionnaire/q384893984839334.pdf

I did get arrested in the states but case was dropped cause they didn't show up to court. My mom was on a lot of medication and very wild mood swings, call the cops on me, then feel bad and give me money. Etc.

I did have my fingerprints taken but no criminal record all clean! That is still fine right?

I'll print out like 3 sheets JUST in case.

The FBI site says 5 to 6 weeks and the CIC site says 16 to 18. My husband did his from the US and it took 5 weeks (that was just in Oct). Mailing time each way from/to Canada can be up to two weeks, so I think 10 weeks or so would be reasonable.

In that case, I will suggest you to first go to Town office, where you were arrested and get your record from there. You will know if there is any arrest record in the system. Even if charges are dropped, arrest record will exist unless it was ordered to be expunged.

I am in Spain. I can't just go there right now.

Everything was dismissed! Plus the case was dropped, she even paid for the lawyer. This was in 2000.

If the arrest record information was not expunged it is very likely that it exists in FBI database. Most states allow for expungement after 5 years but that process can take few months. If FBI Clearance Letter does come with any 'arrest record' then you may need to explain to CIC and submit the related documents, court decision etc. I am not saying a record does exist with FBI for you but there is a possibility. Take Care.
