A few questions regarding translating documents from German into English and certified copies.
As fellow Germans will know, translators in my country double as public notaries; they actually work for the courts and have a high degree of training. However, on the guide, it says all translations not done in Canada must also have a sworn affidavit from a notary saying the translation is accurate. All the translators I've talked to have offered putting an affidavit from themselves on their own translation, but I'm not sure Canada will accept this. Any other Germans have any experience with this and how they did it? Or any other countries where translators are also public notaries?
We're considering contacting a translator in Canada to get around the affidavit bit, because it's causing us a minor headache, but again, would love to hear any other Germans experiences.
Another minor question I have is regarding certified copies. The local city hall is allowed to certify copies of documents, but a few of them are balking at including the English sentence "I certify that this is a true copy of the original document." Did any other Germans get their copies down at city hall or should we contact a public notary?
