Man,you are pumping too much of hopium into my head.lol
Hahah same! I was quite skeptical of the PPR "trickle" but now seeing all these posts, especially from Ottawa, I am beginning to (against my better judgement) hope that maybe I might get some good news in the next couple of months

Wrong, E2 is different from EB5. E2 visa is only for citizens of countries which has trade treaty with US. Investment can be as low as 100k or even less than that depending on location and other factors. This visa let's you stay in US from 3 to 5 years again depending on your application. Your spouse can work on EAD and your children can attend school, college in US.
I know what E2 is. Its an short term visa and its of absolutely no use. Its not an Dual intent visa so its a total waste.

You know I may not even need to go to Canada to get this visa...

I'll research on my own later but is there a chance to obtain a GC once the E2 visa expires? Or can it be extended like H1B?

Edit:

Qualified treaty investors and employees will be allowed a maximum initial stay of two years. Requests for extension of stay in, or changes of status to, E-2 classification may be granted in increments of up to two years each. There is no limit to the number of extensions an E-2 nonimmigrant may be granted. All E-2 nonimmigrants, however, must maintain an intention to depart the United States when their status expires or is terminated.

Man this visa is really good actually...
Don't fall for E2. Its attractive visa but a money making visa for US. You cannot apply for GC because its an non immigrant visa. H1 B and L1 are the two ways for applying for an GC unless you are extra talented. If you are an exceptional talent in your field, then following are the option:

O1 visa ( which is super super super tough) or self petition your GC in Eb2 category through National Interest Waiver (Mostly applicable for Phd’s and Professors).

Easiest way for GC for all countries:
Work in an Company( Managerial role) that has operations in the US. Then move to US thru L1A and then apply for GC thru eb1. Thats the quickest way. Don’t bother applying for h1b. Its total waste of your time.

I wonder how it works though. If it's like "you gotta create $100k every two years to invest over the next two years to keep your visa" then it's pretty easy... Making $100k revenue to invest over 2 years is easy in the US.
Bro, nothing is easy in US.

O-1 is not tough at all. 5-6 of my batch mates from college went to usa on O-1. All it takes is some publications, some paper review role in IEEE, one or two patents possibly with your employer. Its pretty standard stuff for most of mid level engineers working in almost all of decent software product based companies (MS, VMWare, Oracle, AWS (Amazon), NVidia etc).

You can use O-1 as a stepping stone for EB-1 Outstanding Talent. That is somewhat harder, though doable still.

True, US has a weird teenager-ish fetish with making life difficult in general... Make healthcare expensive, make education shit and expensive and put all the money in military. Still getting cheered on by majority of the citizenry. Thats USA for you. Its as if entire country is inflicted with morbid masochism.

Then somebody needs to kick IRCC's lazy ass back into work. Btw my friends disagree from a social life perspective but it's very subjective. Jobs seem to be reopening though, which is good.

Two reasons:

1. The US doesn't have anything similar to EE/FSW/PNP.
2. Canadian passport makes it much easier for me to find good employment in the US or EU (Indian fellows need not jump in and bombard me with comments; I'm not indian so things are different and it works for me).

So I don't wanna "come here"; it's just a stepping stone. Even my shitty ass third world country has a far superior job market to Canada; the only (very major) downside being the shit pay. Projects are beautiful though; talk cutting edge R&D.
Unfortunately, this is the mentality a lot of people here don't like about immigrants who come to Canada. It's all about passport, going to the US eventually, etc.

Not that there is a way to weed people like that out in the current system, but i'd say at least if you're getting an opportunity to immigrate to a country whereas you don't have the same opportunity to do that with other countries, at least be grateful for that opportunity i'd say.

At the end of the day, you will have to spend some time in Canada, and you want to come off as halfway likable at least.

If I may be honest, its present in citizens as well. I went to UBC to recruit engineers for my emplyer. A lot of the STEM folks had a job offer across Douglas crossing. Others asked me one question : What is internal transfer policy of my employer? Yes. Point blank! Many people like my employer because it is very very flexible for transferring people all over the globe. They do not have a minimum wait period after joining.

Not that there is a way to weed people like that out in the current system, but i'd say at least if you're getting an opportunity to immigrate to a country whereas you don't have the same opportunity to do that with other countries, at least be grateful for that opportunity i'd say.
When you allow people to immigrate due to economic reasons, you are letting people in who are driven to move up in the ladder. That drive will not go away once they immigrate.

At the end of the day, you will have to spend some time in Canada, and you want to come off as halfway likable at least.
Here you are wrong. A person will have to fulfill their obligations of opportunity for being a PR in Canada and possibly later a citizen. Thats all. Whatever flexiblity he or she can find around that is no one's business.

What do you think a lot of Canadian born professionals aim for? Landing a better job in the US lol. I personally have such Canadian born friends. But I see where you're coming from. I'd actually prefer living in Canada if I had a good career there but the country offers pretty much nothing good enough besides oil & gas anywhere outside of ON or QC (not looking to go back to that debate).

I went to UBC to recruit engineers for my emplyer.
Do you guys offer Canadians less pay than Americans? Or at least try to buy em off with a lower paycheck? Since they're kinda desperate sometimes...

E2 just sounds like an expensive TN visa.
