Thanks. It's just, I can't lose Canadian PR, but I'd prefer US PR. Everyone I talk to tells me to get a citizenship first and go through TN route.

I have a Master's degree from the US. I just don't know anyone who got a green card though NIW. I will do some research on this.
This is what I am planning to do. The issue is that if green card sponsorship is not a part of your contract (I doubt it is) then there is nothing you can do to push the company to sponsor you. Your company knows that once your are going to get that GC, you out, which means they will hold off with that GC sponsorship for as long as they possibly can. On the other hand, you got PR. Move to Canada, get your couple of years of experience, get citizenship, then evaluate your options. I met a guy in a bar here (Toronto) that used to be in oil and gas (Alberta). Came as a foreigner, got citizenship, used it to get a cushy expat contract in Emirates, pocketed roughly 400-500K USD/year (he was lead petrophysicist), came back to Canada, bought a house here, and moved to project management.

Personally, I would not trust any company in the world with my future. It's all about business.

Canadian citizenship takes a minimum of four years in best case scenario, 3 years to meet the residency requirements and 1 year for processing. 5 years is a more realistic timeline IMO.

lol. Congrats man! I wonder what happened with ones sent in March.

The whole concept of waiting for PR cards is so dumb. Can easily print a plastic card in the airport. Or!!! A wild thought, I know... Cancel all of the plastic PR cards and issue them electronically. Better for environment, takes less than a second, possible to store in several different places/impossible to lose or damage.

No idea what happened. None. IRCC blames Canada Post, Canada Post blames IRCC and then both blame covid. MP says that he will personally blow me but dont make him talk to IRCC. Its as Canadian as poutine.

I often compare and contrast Canada's border control with Australia. They link your PR visa (189/190) with your passport. For entering and leaving you just need your passport. Thats it! And their visa system is accessible to airlines and ships too. Not to mention to you as well. Something called VEVO. You enter you details and it tells if you hold a valid visa or not. Canada has the problem that their visa system is not accessible. This is why PR Cards is a thing. To help commercial carriers determine whom to onboard their planes buses or ships.

Not if you have already spend 2 years as a temporary resident. You can claim 1 year towards your residency for 2 years spent as temporary resident.

Yeah but most people here don't fall into that category and it's just maximum of one year, you still need to spend 3-4 years in Canada which is a long time. I doubt that families especially with children will want to move again after such a long time.

Roughly 5 years from starting as PR to be a citizen.

Even in this case actual passport in hand could take up to 5 years. Can't trust that IRCC will keep the same processing timelines.

No it is not guaranteed. It depends on my staying at my current company.

I am trying to not lose my Canadian PR while also having a shot at the US.
I believe you need to stay 2 out of 5 years in canada to maintain PR status.. So you can "softland" in candat to "activate" the PR status... Continue your US parole for 2.5/3 years.. if it doesnot work out come back to canada to maintain PR status and renew PR later.. If this makes sense..

Exactly. I'm now closer to 50 than 40 and so is my spouse (even closer). I can't see myself upping and leaving for elsewhere in 5 years, unless circumstances become very unbearable in Canada. I'd earlier pull out my own liver.

Most people on here are much younger though, and would probably be less than 40 years when they attain citizenship. They are more likely to be willing to relocate if Canada isn't working great for them.

Having said that, I think those that have their eyes set on the US might be in for a shock at the state the US will be in 5 years, judging by the current trajectory.

No country is perfect of course. But I agree with you and the US is really going the way of a massive dumpster fire. I find that really sad.
