I doubt they would delay, especially only a few weeks after the announcement, it'd make the prime minister look like he didn't plan it well enough. Everybody knew the surges wouldn't ever end, just like how covid will never end. I'd guess the authorities were also aware of this fact when they were considering opening the borders. There would be no scenario where the borders would open and cases (before or after) would not increase. Many experts expect covid to become an endemic soon. Which means there'll be cases and surges but case numbers will not be meaningful, instead, number of deaths and availability of hospitals will be. Sooner or later countries and governments will need to understand what the UK is doing now is really the only feasible thing to do. Covid isn't going anywhere and the world can't stay locked up that long.While I don’t want to sound negative, I am wondering if something like this could delay border reopening plans
By the end of this year I guess humanity will stop counting cases, waves, variants, pretty much anything other than deaths. Look at the UK, 50000 cases but only 50 deaths. It doesn't look too bad.
