Hi @legalfalcon , this is a very unusual question but please help. We passed our remedicals on Jan 27th, 2022. AOR is November 2019 OINP application, VO is CIO and COR is India. We have an agent. But I went through an MP to check for the status of the application and came to know that original passport was requested on Feb 2nd, 2022. Agent says he never got any email. What can be done in this scenario? Maybe it’s in his Spam, what if it’s not ? Even if it is, could you please tell me what should my next step be?
@ImpatientAlligator @dankboi : Do any of you have an answer to this ?

Can I apply for two credit cards in succession? Just landed a couple of days ago and I have already applied for no-annual fees credit card from Scotia as part of their newcomer's program and got a 1000 CAD limit. Now I am thinking of applying for a credit card through CIBC as signup with them as part of newcomer account from them, once I have received the one from Scotia.

Will I be rejected if I apply in like 15 days of receiving a credit card?

Agree, this is huge drawback. So if one loses TD credit card and is used by someone else, card holder wont even be alerted. I dont know whether other banks act the same way.
BMO sends text alerts. TD asks you to install app and send alerts through push notifications. But it is not reliable in my experience. BMO alerts almost instant when a transaction happens.

Your likelihood of approval depends on a few things: your job/salary, other credit cards, relationship with the bank, annual fee, credit score, etc. You can check your credit score on the Scotiabank app. If you don't get it approved, I wouldn't recommend applying for another one for the next 6 months.

And, welcome to Canada!

If you are specifically looking for no FX fee credit cards, there are a few of them offered by other financial institutions:

Brim Mastercard
Hometrust Visa Credit Card
Yeah I know about these. Hometrust visa has terrible reviews online. Their customer service is shit.

I have US cards for no foreign fee for now. I'm exploring Brim and Scotia for Canada.

Yeah, it is weird why they dont have more options on this front and why they're all paid (I looked at Scotiabank and HSBC). I'm keeping my Chase Amazon card from the USA which is free and has no transaction fees. Even the Amazon cards in Canada suck compared to the USA.
Yeah Amazon card in Canada is shit. I also have the Chase Amazon from USA. It is sad that Chase exited the credit card market in Canada.

Oh, I have already been approved for the card. The FA at the bank told me I should receive one at my address in 7-10 days. The only reason I want to apply for another is that I've been told it's really easy to get your credit card blocked. I would be stuck with no way for paying for utilities if that happens.

Please do share your experience of how it goes ...

I meant for the second one. You can try applying applying. But if it is not approved, don't apply again for any credit for the next 6 months.
Getting your credit card blocked is a non-issue. It doesn't happen unless it's stolen/compromised or if you don't payoff your bill for a looooong time. Besides, you'll always have you debit card.

I presume it is better to get a secured CC at the begining if you do not have any job. After you will get a job then you should be able to get unsecured one - maybe it will not have a huge limit at the begining but after few months they will increase.

Either way, it's the same thing. The credit bureaus don't report it as secured/unsecured anyway, so it's best if you can get an unsecured one so that you don't have to park money on a cc. (Might as well park that in money on a HISA).
