In a few hours from now Justin would visit the Gov. Gen. where he is expected to officially make the election call.
Personally can’t wait for these damn elections to be over. It seems some of the decisions the immigration department have been making are politically informed
I'd say it's an indirect connection to politics through travel restrictions. Election or no election there wasn't gonna be FSW draws until Sept 7. The election just happened to be shortly after. So they might wait.

perhaps JT wants to appease the voters by having less supply of "real skilled" immigrants... so that the government doesn't have to hear from the voters that outlanders are stealing their jobs just before the election

It's Canada dude not the US. FSW and EE have been there for close to a decade now. Everyone knows what's up.

I learned that unlike Australia, Canadian citizens are indifferent about skilled immigration; infact, a good number of them support it according to polls conducted some weeks back

Yo read below

Also, both the government and other parties kept talking about how immigrants help the economy and will be key to post-pandemic economic recovery so there's no "immigrants stealing our jobs" kind of situation currently. Which is good.
There's no inland outland distinction and if there were an "immigrants stealing our jobs" situation, Justin Mendicino would have had a very hard time after the megadraw and all those easy draws in 2021. Giving PR to an inland TR might (often does) mean you turn their closed work permit to an open one, which creates increased competition inside Canada. Even if that's not the case, citizens don't know jack about details of immigration. To them, an immigrant is an immigrant who might be (or might not be) increasing competition. Long story short, chill dude we're good.

The economy is starting to crawl back to life; unemployment rate has been reducing by a fraction every month since the beginning of the year according to statistics and just recently (last month) we read that employers are finding it difficult to get workers to fill up job roles

I think that it is not entirely correct to say that. Most people are saying that there are jobs cuts, lay-offs, salary cuts etc are miasing one point. It is only happening in a specific sectors ;) high skilled jobs such us IT, Health Care etc. Just gained more momentum and need more workers which are hard to find on the market ;)

fair point.... however, their words and actions don't tally.. seems like they'd prefer the "economic recovery" via student intake over economic recovery by spends/consumption of settlement funds by Outlanders.
It might work for the short-term but if they have insight they would know it doesn’t for the long term. Many students will return home after studies; same with foreign workers. But skilled immigrants will contribute to the economy for several years through tax, work and consumption

Maybe. Thing is, for there to be an economic recovery, which means more money flowing into Canada than usual, there must be a considerably increased interest in Canadian schools. I don't know what JT's advisors are telling him but shutting down outland routes won't explode study permit apps. Yes there'd be an increase, but it wouldn't be enough to call it recovery. Think about the money Canada would lose from outlanders turning away from Canada.

Also check out some news about how Canada needs more mid-senior or senior professionals and managers. It's not all about having 20 year old kids with zero experience but just a Canadian degree in Canada. Immigration is a complex need.
