I don’t know how that would work. I thought that for EB green cards, dependents were linked to primary applicants time, even if they aren’t Indian born. Unless what they do is the Indian is in H1B and the non Indian is the one getting the EB sponsorship. I’m not sure how they would do it honestly. Some had said they have a better shot waiting for their us born kids to turn 21 and sponsoring them lol.
Nope you can exchange queuing time. For example, if a Chinese is married to a French person, they can use the French's wait time, which is zero, even if the French person is not the main applicant.

Didn’t know this. That’s quite interesting. Too bad people are having to look for loopholes. I was offered marriage in the past so I could remain in the US, but I always preferred to do things legit. It sucks that it feels like doing things legit screws you over.

US is great but visa restrictions for Indians is fucked up more than imagination. In 4-5 years every thing should fall in place after that again moving is hard.
TN visa or L1 visa. Zero restrictions in obtaining these two.

For US immigration there's absolutely ZERO benefit to do legitimate stuff. They like the illegals oh man.

But illegals haven’t been able to get legalized though, and I doubt they will with US being so polarized. I was dating this Filipino girl who was a citizen, she offered to marry so I would stay but I was like, nooo, I’m too young to get married, and I’m sure I can come back legally. Hahaha yeah right. Now she married a Mexican guy and they have been married since then.

Does anyone have any idea about settling in Ottawa? Is it expensive? Not many people mention this city when planning to move.

Almost same scenario for me. My then girlfriend was only on a student visa trying to get her PhD. Although I didn't think I was too young, I just thought it would only be a matter of time before we would be hanging by our nails again.

I left the US, made the relationship very long distance, offered we both move to Canada instead but ended up being the only one going on the journey to Canada.

She'll be getting married in a couple of months in the US and somehow I have no regrets. I only wish I had started on this road earlier.

I will 100% be moving to Ottawa if I get PR. That's been my plan from day 1. As far as Canada goes, it's the absolute best case scenario for what I want.

Canada to resettle female Afghan judges, families living in limbo

TORONTO, Dec 31 (Reuters) - Canada will take in female Afghan judges and their families who have been living in limbo, primarily in Greece, since their evacuation from Afghanistan in the fall, a spokesperson for the immigration minister said Friday.

In addition to the judges and their families, a group totalling about 230 people, Canada will also resettle an unspecified number of Afghans from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities who had been referred by a third-party aid organization, the spokesperson said.

They are expected to come to Canada next year but there is no firm date.

Canada has promised to resettle 40,000 Afghan refugees but has no timeline for doing so. Since the Taliban took control of the country after the U.S. troop withdrawal in August, Canada has resettled 3,915 Afghans with connections to the Canadian government and another 2,535 on humanitarian grounds, according to government figures.

Afghan women made great strides in the two decades since the Taliban last ruled the country from 1996 to 2001, joining previously all-male bastions such as the judiciary, the media and politics.

"All the achievements of 20 years came back to zero within the blink of an eye," said Freshta Masoni, a family court judge staying in Athens with her toddler daughters.

Since returning to power, the Taliban pledged to protect women's rights in accordance with Islamic law, announcing a general "amnesty" for all former state workers. But advocates fear a backslide to when women were not allowed to work and girls were banned from school.

Even if they can leave the country, Afghan asylum-seekers may face years of waits amid logistical backlogs and delays. Western countries usually resettle refugees referred by the UN refugee agency, which has limited capacity to process applications for resettlement.

"The biggest bottleneck there is the issue that referral partners in the region have not been able to ramp up capacity," Canada's immigration minister, Sean Fraser, told Reuters earlier this month. "These challenges are going to take a little bit of time to sort out."

Afghanistan's refugee situation is different from the Syrian refugee crisis that galvanized the world several years ago, UN refugee agency officials and advocates say.

Unlike Syria, the Afghan crisis escalated rapidly during a global pandemic and many face difficulties leaving the country. Those who do leave face additional waits, often in countries with little capacity to support them.

Some of the female judges, who have been living in Greece since October, told Reuters they have lacked health coverage because of their temporary visa status.

Advocates have called on countries to resettle Afghans without requiring a designation from the UNHCR or other NGOs, a step Canada has signalled it is open to.
