How can that be? If I land Jan 1, 2015, I'D have to apply for renewal at the most by Dec 31,2019 right (bcos the first PR visa expires on that date)? So in such cases why would CIC choose a 5-yr period between between June 1, 2017 and May 31, 2022?? To offset for any risks, that would require the applicant to ideally stay a full 5 years out of 5 years in Canada, because 2 years in one 5-year period won't qualify as 2 years in another 5-year period.....I got totally confused future, pls explain in detail what u mean....future_canadian said:CIC can examine ANY 5 year period it chooses, beginning on the day you land, and during that 5 year period you must have been physically present in Canada for 730 days (two full years worth of days). In other words, a new 5 year period begins every day. Suppose you land January 1, 2015. Between then and December 31, 2019 you must spend at least 730 days in Canada to retain PR. Between January 2, 2015 and January 1, 2020, you must also have spent 730 days in Canada to retain PR. And between June 1, 2017 and May 31, 2022, you must also have spent 730 days in Canada. And so on.
