I wish this forum could be used to 'support' each other, rather than be the place to come to argue with others who are also frustrated with the situation....

I agree with you buddy.

This forum still is a support mechanism, even when people "vent" out of frustration, there is no where else you can really go where you are going to get an "ear" to listen to you, where that person can actually say they have walked at least a half mile in your shoes in regard to this particular (sometimes peculiar) situation with immigration.

You may not always agree with everything here, but that is life.

Exactly.

We are all here due to the insecurity that goes with placing your life in the hands of an unknown agent. Disagreements will arise but that does not lessen the degree to the care and commitment we show each other. Life is not all rainbows and gumdrops.

CBC wants to hear from people effected by the strike.

check it out and email your story to this lady, This could put a lot of pressure on the government to secure a deal and end the strike

Good find, this is the kind of thing that helps throw a little light on a situation, and hopefully move the parties towards being able to at least talk to each other.

"The slowdown in processing applications is affecting tourists, businesspeople, temporary foreign workers and international students and the union believes it's having a "severe" economic impact. The tourism industry has estimated it could lose at least $280 million this summer."

I still don't understand why they don't say a word about the family sponsorship. It seems like this is the group they don't really care about. Strange. To me this is the most important group of people because so many families are not united at the moment because of this. It's not all just about money!!!! >:(

I don't completely agree but govt is already looking into options for replacing these greedy workers which will be a right step in right direction from trb statement today.. In this economical slow period these traitor have cost millions if not billions to Canadian economy and chose this time of the year for a full strike demanding ransom from taxpaying Canadians. I really hope government doesn't agree to any conditions since these super efficient workers already make a lot of money.. I saw their pay structure and the salary starts at 57 or $58k and goes up to 120k..

If government agrees to their pay increase and they must take steps to phase the pafso out by mid 2014 when the next contract is due by cross training non-union staff hired on performance basis. There is a lot of smart Canadians who are willing to take all the hardship that these poor fat greedy fellows are suddenly experiencing ...
Sorry for venting out but what's fair is fair. Everyone should show solidarity with government and teach this insensitive greedy union a lesson for blackmailing and damaging our tourism/educational sector for this year..

PAFSO also started getting shivers now since they issued a strong memo to all the staff for not breaking the strike per se.. So soon it will be over one way or another and I hope govt fires all of them. PAFSO has shamed the nation and I have 0 sympathy for them.. And I can debate against their pay hike any given day with facts.

I really don't find it very strange. I wondered, when we first heard word of the strike, what good it was supposed to do at all for the foreign workers, as a strike must have economic impact or strongly affect quality of life for many people before it holds any power for the group on strike. While we ALL KNOW that any slow-down with immigration strongly and negatively affects quality of life for those of us impacted, it's a relatively small percentage of the population, and let's face it, half of those people are "foreigners." Those who benefit financially from tourism and foreign workers and students are a larger group feeling a much larger economic impact. Just the way it works. They're the squeakier wheels, and that is where the grease goes.

I suppose you would be much happier if everyone was paid by the standards in India? Worked under Indian conditions?

If you are doing the same work as someone else and getting paid less for it it is not "greedy" to expect to be treated fairly by receiving the same pay for the same work.
