If they fix the calculator I think all people who landed no later than 3 and a half years ago will not need a PC. Also, if they fix the calculator then everybody will be released from that because the eligibility period would change.

Q20: Why does the physical presence requirement look at five (5) years but the foreign police certificate looks at four (4) years?

A20: This is because these are two different requirements under the law. The physical presence requirement is 1,095 days in the five (5) years immediately before the date of your citizenship application. You cannot become a Canadian citizen if you have been convicted of an offence outside Canada (that is equivalent to an indictable offence in Canada) during the four (4) years immediately before your application date.

Hello All,

I am starting new thread: for all people who landed as PR less than 5 years ago.

Well, it is very confusing and frustrating. Obviously, CIC misses "Landing date" in their online calculator. If that option was used all misunderstandings would have been avoided as this option would have changed the eligibility period for all people who are in Canada (as PR`s) for less than 5 years. Their eligibility period would start at the date they landed, not before that. How come, for example, I am 4 years in Canada and they ask me if I left Canada in the last 5 years???

So, if they stay with the same online presence calculator WE all need to submit CIT0177E-2 form?That is impossible, but as per question 9c during eligibility period if one has lived outside of Canada, then we need to fill it. Also, when you open the form, the title is Residence outside of Canada as a crown servant or with a crown servant family member? Unbelievable.

So confusing, they immediately need to update their online physical presence calculator. Obviously, CIC missed this.

Any thoughts? Any people in the same situation?

OMG, good thing I'm not the only one. Lol. I was scratching my head since morning because I can't figure it out and was really confusing. It doesn't makes sense at all.

So what I'll do is to tick "Yes" then put a separate sheet explaining why question 9c doesn't apply to me as suggested here (thank you, by the way). As for the PC, I guess it's required then since I lived in the US for more than 183 days during the eligibility period. Is this correct? My eligibility period is from 2012-10-11 to 2017-10-11.

Under the question "Where were you physically located", have you added your work/school address or where you lived during that time period? The latter would be a duplication of the previous question and kind of wouldn't make sense. What if someone has moved several times while in that work/study position?!

yes i am in the same situation... i first came to canada as PR 4 years ago. I will select no for question 9(c). However, i will provide all addresses and work/education since 2011 just to be on the safe side.

I'm at your same situation & did the same. Submitted my application yesterday Oc-11

The call centre agent said Tick no and explain. I said tick yes and explain. But of course you should listen to the call centre agent. Most importantly, explain it and you will be alright!

Personally, I ticked yes and explained because yes makes more sense (I live outside canada during the eligiblity period). In my opinion, ticking yes or no and giving explanation why this part is not applicable would hopefully work.

I agree. The most important thing is: add an explanation, don't worry too much about ticking yes or no.

As of now, no correction to the question 9(c).

Is OK to send the application today and tick "YES" or "NO" (with explanation) or wait for the correction? It might happen tomorrow or 2 months later.

Any thoughts?

I already sent the application for my wife, selected "NO" and did not provide any explanation. She actually lived outside of Canada. Hopefully, they will not return.

I'm in the same situation . Not sure whether to enter where were you physically located.

You can't believe what i did, after reading the posts here, I went to Canada Post and reopened my envelop, put the newly printed forms (this time with "Yes" for the question 9c), and added an explanation letter.
I was lucky envelop was not delivered yet.
