Hello All,

I am starting new thread: for all people who landed as PR less than 5 years ago.

Well, it is very confusing and frustrating. Obviously, CIC misses "Landing date" in their online calculator. If that option was used all misunderstandings would have been avoided as this option would have changed the eligibility period for all people who are in Canada (as PR`s) for less than 5 years. Their eligibility period would start at the date they landed, not before that. How come, for example, I am 4 years in Canada and they ask me if I left Canada in the last 5 years???

So, if they stay with the same online presence calculator WE all need to submit CIT0177E-2 form? That is impossible, but as per question 9c during eligibility period if one has lived outside of Canada, then we need to fill it. Also, when you open the form, the title is Residence outside of Canada as a crown servant or with a crown servant family member? Unbelievable.

So confusing, they immediately need to update their online physical presence calculator. Obviously, CIC missed this.

Any thoughts? Any people in the same situation?

yes i am in the same situation... i first came to canada as PR 4 years ago. I will select no for question 9(c). However, i will provide all addresses and work/education since 2011 just to be on the safe side.

Do you think it is a mistake by CIC?

Yes, i think in the physical calculator, they should ask when we first came to canada, and if this date is less than 5 years ago then that should be the eligibility start date.

Anyways, if the calculator is not fixed by tomorrow morning, I will submit my application as it is.

And how would you fill the physical presence calculator if it is not fixed as stay as is?
Would you report the time between October 2012 (5 yeaas ago) and the date you landed as PR as an absence from Canada?
Or do you just start listing your absences from the date you became a PR?

Yes, that is very tricky. Most likely, I will put my absences after I became a PR. Conclusively, how is possible to report absences if you were not in Canada? That does not make sense.

I will say one more time, so confusing...

I just listed my absences since i became PR. Note that the physical calculator absence page asks for the DATE LEFT CANADA. Between Oct 2012 and the day I became PR, i did not even enter canada to leave it :D . Therefore, I only put the absences once I came to canada.

I will probably do the same but I am still hoping CIC will notice this big flaw and will update the calculator accordingly. Have they evenynoticed this issue? They should have just taken the old calculator before the 2015 citizenship requirement changes! At least that one was tested and had worked for years!

Hi Ninamtl,

I doubt CIC knows about this big flaw. I don`t know, if there is any way to let them know in order to fix this?

Or just to apply as it is, but than we might face the "incomplete application".

Hey budd! jst saw your post, I have asked also that same kstion. in my case, moved here as a landed immigrant on july 9 2014th, had submitted a background check (fbi) prior moving here as it was mandatory. I was asking d folks on d forum if I have to submit another fbi check although I have been outside of Canada more than 2 weeks. looks like I have to ...try to dble check for yourself. kind of frustrating...buy hey it`s life.good luck

If they fix the calculator I think all people who landed no later than 3 and a half years ago will not need a PC. Also, if they fix the calculator then everybody will be released from that because the eligibility period would change.
