I would really use this as a point as to show how CIC has such a broken system.

Oh of course, it's the CIC's "fault", and we whine and complain when our MP's say "I can't help you until you have surpassed posted processing timelines".

Trophy wife is always a bad idea, but we usually aren't that wise until after the experience.

I sympathise with the lady, but I dunno. Based on the story, there were red flags that she ignored, because of love.

I'm all for the two-year conditional PR. I hope it would deter most if not all fraudsters who are looking to find an easy way into Canada. Wishful thinking

This is definitely a very sad story and it can happen in any marriage whether we are sponsoring a spouse or marry one inside the country. I have seen many instances of men and women getting used and endless situations where one or the other loses all their property or has to make endless support payments. Lets hope in the case demonstrated that this man does the right thing and supports himself by working.

Yap! Even more for the guy's story. Age 56 and 27, $250 sent EVERY month, AND "all huffy and reluctant to be intimate"?!? Are you kidding me? I know love can be blind but GEEZ!

The story is pretty sad but things can go wrong for anyone even when you use your best judgement. I wish her all the best and I hope she comes out of it stronger.

I don't mind the 2 year under surveillance in marriage after my husband and I are together but wouldn't it be better then to speed up the timelines? Making couples wait for months or even years to be together and then keeping them under surveillance?!? I don't mind the two years but I want to get started on life with my hubby ASAP. Distance is not a beauty to behold.

I feel sorry for her... She fell in love and this scammer played her like a fool.. He fooled her and fooled Canada.

Canada needs to get tough.

If you played such a game to enter Canada and then vanish in nature that is misrepresentation to me and should be immediate deportation

I have to say this though...I don't know why people sink their self in debt just because they can, and not because of any real need. People need to use their head and not their heart. All the gifts, and money she was spending on him should have been a red flag. A true mate would have stopped her from all that she was spending on him and his family.

Hmmm.... Based on posts on this forum, I read the money being spent on the overseas spouses as part of the "evidence" CIC wants to prove a genuine marriage when the spouses can't live together to commingle finances. That said, the $4000 bedroom set when already in debt is crazy.

I'm not so sure that "money being spent" is automatically a plus for an application. In either of these two sad cases, maybe it was perceived as a 'red flag' that had to be convincingly overturned with other stuff. We happily put "NO" to financial support on our application and it was not a concern.

Here's the issue. There's an exemption for abusve. Watch how 'abusive' Canadians suddenly become.

Which ticks me off, because then no one listens to legitimate abuse claims.
