you will have to visit individual bank website to apply. there are many banks like TD, BMO, RBC etc TD usually has more hiring than any other bank they have sub categories of their business like TD insurance, if insurance is your field, you should apply directly there.. basically you have to search online for jobs avoid agencies when it comes to applying job in banks. Search for your self everything is posted online by the banks they usually don't use any recruiting agencies to help them hire.. to enter in a bank is difficult but once you get there you can easily excel so grab what ever you get initially. hiring personnel are very professional if during the telephone interview they feel that you are more qualified for a certain job and you have the expertise to handle a more challenging role they will forward your details to the related department for job.

start from making an appropriate CV there are 2 types of CVs functional CV and i forgot the other name... :) basically the difference is that if you have switched many jobs and have a lengthy CV you should go for functional CV it has a single heading of "Professional experience" ... make sub headings like "people management" "retail" "sales" "new business development" and "customer service" etc.. and you need to put all your important valuable experience under that for all jobs..

then you make a heading of "work history" where you tell about all your job positions, company name and duration.. (starting from most recent job)

after this comes the heading of "education" where you put your university degrees details including completion year t.. and then you put a heading of "Training and qualifications" where you put all your training and other qualifications/courses

in the end mention "references" just put available on request this type of CV make the employer better understand your key skills and your international experience are represented in a fine manner which Canadians can easily understand according to their requirements for a specific job

the other kind of CV is the one which we normally use (and recommended if your experience is based on a few companies and less years of work history) .. it has the information in descending order starting from you most recent job, company name, duration and job duties... everything else goes in same fashion as above(functional cv) but you need to explain each job independently

also make a cover letter it takes some time but makes a difference

i would suggest to attend the orientation session (CIIP) which CIC provides everyone before the applicants land in Canada its really informative and helpful you will get an invitation for that with your PR or may be with passport request

i didn't apply for the grant and my husband had US degree so he didn't have any trouble getting a job straight away but i know many people who did apply for grants they go directly to universities like NAIT, MacEwan, or university of Alberta and just tell them that they need to upgrade as their credentials are not recognized here and they are facing difficulty in finding a proper job .. then the universities do the evaluation on their own and let you know about the suitable programs they have grant available for
First of all sonea you are helping a lot and taking out time to reply everyone in best of your capacity .I appreciate it a lot.let me have few question regarding my European degree which I got from Sweden. It is MPH master in public health with 8 year experience ?

In your field I think u still have to take a test and then you can start your career in sonography here. I don't know about the pay difference between Ontario and ab but I know that these professions are highly paid in Canada I would suggest that you search jobs online in each state and then compare the salary. But again you will get to upgrade here for free on grant but you'll have to pay for any course in Ontario by yourself. Also you should check with someone in Ontario that if its easy to get a job there in your field because the basic reason people don't go there is only a few jobs and loads of applicants so its hard to get a job there.

In calgary Salaries are higher than Edmonton so u can also check that out if it works for you. U can get your course on grant from Edmonton and then apply in Calgary for job if u wish..

I just want to say one thing that I disagree a bit with Sonea on: in Edmonton, the choice of elementary school (K-6) actually does make a lot of difference. This is because the Edmonton school district is one of the highest quality in the world, and it gives parents complete choice to send their child to any school, regardless of where they live (though sometimes there is competition). This means that parents can choose from a number of special programs:

- French Immersion (taught totally in French from Day 1)
- Other languages emphasized (Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, German, Chinese, Spanish, maybe Punjabi)
- special sports programs
- alternative science programs
- schools with alternative arrangements like split-level classes, etc.
- art schools

It really is a wonderful system -- we're trying to figure out where we want to live, so our child can go to a special school close to his home. Parents with young kids should look into the different schools.

Medical professions are trickier to enter -- it will be more complex than simply taking a test, and involve at the very least degree evaluations, proof of English, and other sorts of things. Instead of asking vague questions of nonspecialists, you need to research this yourself. Each province will have different standards, and they may not transfer.

thanks for your input in this regards

i said that studies is same every where as you must know that year 3 and year 6 have exams on provincial levels so the syllabus is same they teach in each school whether public or private/catholic schools.. i also mentioned that catholic schools have better discipline rules which make them a better choice for parents but their transportation system does not cover every area of the city (unlike yellow school buses) so you have to take care of that too..

secondly the fellow asked about high school so i didn't go in much detail about junior school .. there is an outdated website which gives school ranking in Edmonton which has incomplete list of schools so you can imagine how efficient education system they are running over here ..

you can't even enter in sonography without the appropriate certification .. Calgary and Edmonton both are in same state, Alberta ..

you should get the normal cloths but for winter cloths, specially outerwear (jackets, kids snow pants etc) you should buy everything from here.. if you are moving from a country where winters are almost like in Edmonton then you can buy these from there too.. i bought my family's jackets and all from England and they were perfect to use here

all kind of spices are available here in each supermarket you will find at least one aisles of international foods.. best is to shop from "superstore" here they have everything for everyone at economical price..

There is no medical career that is not regulated in Canada. Also, sonography is not preventive, it is diagnostic.

Sonea, I know that Edmonton and Calgary are in the same province -- if you are going to correct people, don't call the Canadian provinces 'states' . . . As for the school system being 'inefficient', what does that even mean? The school system here is excellent, by national and international standards. Whether all schools teach the same curriculum is not relevant -- it is how they teach it that parents need to research. In French, Chinese, Spanish, with alternative methods or alternative organizations, and with extra money devoted to arts, or sports, or science, or whatnot. The Catholic school system has serious drawbacks for some parents -- e.g. compulsory classes in the Catholic religion, and no sexual health studies.

Well this might be helpful for those new immigrants who are skeptical about quality of education in Alberta.
Last year British Prime Minister praised Alberta s education system with the following words.

"Alberta is the jurisdiction with the best educational results of any English speaking jurisdiction in the world"
British Prime Minister, David Cameron, is giving high praise to Alberta's education system, which the province's educators say can be credited to our teachers, and the innovative way they use technology in classrooms.
