Hi all,

Just checking how everyone is doing. I finally landed in Canada a few weeks ago. We moved to a house a bit on a somewhat rural location, and getting an internet provider was quite a problem. That made me feel all of a sudden completely isolated from friends and family abroad, and worried me a lot. I depend also on the internet for my work. I am so relieved to be able to connect again.

I hope everyone is feeling well! :)

That's just for starters, I'm sure that with time you will have some more "happy" moments with Rogers (or Bell). Welcome to Canada ;)

You are not the only one.
You miss your job. I miss my freedom.
I love the fact that I finally am with my wife, but neither I nor her, likes the way people treats us here.
Just because we have lots of tattoos and piercings, and my hair is very long, we're seem like animals.
She have her job, I still working with the same company I used to work for the past five years, but still really sucks when the government takes 34% of my payiment.
Theses days I was walking and an old lady made a "cross sign" when she saw me and said "you need a priest".
Everyone here wants to know about what the couple next door is doing.
I don't know if this happens in all places in Canada, but here, in Montréal, it happens a lot.
We are seriously thinking about going back to our home country. The only problem is her family. We don't want them away from her. We will give a shot, a year or two and will see how things will develop. But now, I really hate this place.
So sorry to hear about your bad experience

I live in toronto for most of my life and happy to live in a great city - Toronto of course is the largest city in Canada and very multicultural......The experience you faced in Monteal because of your long hair and tattoos etc was ridiculous and I don't think you would have faced those insulting comments here in Toronto.

Don't give up - Canada truly is a amazing country to live in - take a visit to the big city Toronto and see, and besides there are other provinces too

Good luck !!

No need to worry...... Life Is what you make it ???

I would never live anywhere else but Canada - especially Toronto where it's so warm and friendly and very multicultural!!!

Of course it will take some time, but you will have many resources that can help you adjust into our wonderful country Canada

Hi,

I already got my PR here. However, after I moved to this country, I feel so depressed! I rezlized it is very difficult to get a job here. I had a good job and made good money back home. It looks like that going back to do my profession I need to go back to school and take several exams. Now I am sitting home every day,and I have been sending out many resumes but no luck at all!!These days, I feel strongly to move back home becasue I am not happy with my lifestyle in Canada. I don't know what to do? The face is that I am married and my husband is nice to me, but I just don't feel happy at all, and this depressing feeling is getting worse. Is there anyone feeling the same way as me?
I wish I could help you, but unfortunately you dont live in my city which is Toronto.

If you ever considered of moving here - where we are friendly and extremely multicultural inbox me if your still looking for a job - if your interested you can start with Customer Service (inbound )

Thanks sashali78! We are finding all kinds of "excitements." We imported our car, and there is no alternative but to go Canadian Tire to do the process of inspection required by the Government. Well, The mechanic broke a part while checking the vehicle, made us waste all day Friday, and their customer service is rather far from ideal. Oh, well!

Happy week!

Hi, where are you from? And in which city did you move in Canada?

If I can ask?

Montreal is a great city, but the frenchies are a bit more picky on people. I've been there and had some not so good experiences because I didn't speak french. But on the west side of Canada(Edmonton,Alberta)
I run into a few french people with little or no english and were always courteous to help them. Tattoo's and funny hair, we got more here then most city's lol. Capital of tattoo's in Edmonton, everyone has them. Including my Manager who's a woman! Come to Alberta people, pretty good and laid back province. Few redneck's but they are half breeds mostly haha. Just my 2 cents ; )

p.s. Minimum wage is going up every year for next 3 years!

Agreed! My wife was very depressed for the first few months that I was really worried for her. It took about half a year for her to not be constantly depressed. After about a year, it started to get better. Now it is two years later and she is doing very well!
I have been in Canada for almost 2 years. I am from California. I was very depressed for the first 6 months, maybe a bit more. It is very hard leaving your family, friends, job...life and coming somewhere new with no job, no car, no friends. It just takes time really. I started volunteering and learned the bus routes and I am doing much better. It has made such a difference to get out of the house and be around people. I have made a few friends. I am a very independent person and never relied on anyone for anything. It's hard being dependent on someone else and not having a more independent life. I also have all my belongings in storage back in California and that kind of sucks too. All in all, it has worked out. I am looking forward to my PR and working. :)

I agree, just give yourself time to adjust. If you are with the one you love and it's meant to be then it will all work out.
Hugs & Smiles!!

Wouldn't it be great if the USA and Canada actually put in some work and had a free movement agreement, and moving to either country wouldn't amount to a life changing decision. It's purely artificial. My Wife is from Maine and I am from Nova Scotia, but we had to actually sit down and decide where to live because the bureaucracy is so cumbersome and expensive. Can you imagine anything more ridiculous. It's like having a dramatic conversation about deciding to live in Toronto or Mississauga. It's the same! We are right next door to each other, there is zero difference between New England and the Maritimes!!

It really surprises me that Canada and the US don't have a free movement agreement like Aus and NZ or the EU.

There's actually a petition going around to make an Aus, Canada, NZ and UK one, keeps popping up on my facebook haha would have made this process a lot easier!

If it comes, most of the people will move to USA? Due to more opportunities in USA and severe winter weather in Canada?

Haha, all my US friends are jealous of me being in Canada and want to move here. I don't know a single Canadian who feels that way about the US.
