Hi,
I'm about to apply for citizenship but have been waiting for news about the fee being reduced/wiped out. Does anyone have any idea about what's happening with that?
Its not going to happen. Just pay up and then don't ask about your application....you may get citizenship in 2 years, 5 years or 10 years, be grateful that you are allowed to apply at all.

In this economic situation, I don't think it's prudent to wipe out fees. Don't delay, what if they change citizenship rules while you await for a fee wipe out.
The fees charged for the application are probably used to fund folks who are working on processing these apps. I am not sure what the plan if if these fees are wiped out - how will they pay those salaries. It will only lead to destaffing and covid like timelines even during normal times if that is what is acceptable to everyone

This election promise was made pre-COVID-19. Estimates were that removing this fee would cost Canadian taxpayers $400 million over four years. Guessing the Liberals have probably put this on pause given COVID-19 and higher financial priorities for Canada.

I'm sorry but what do you mean be greatful that I can apply at all? Just wondering if I'm missing some sort of criteria. After getting PR the citizenship application doesn't seem as intense.
