Hello Everyone,
I need some information whether my spouse should leave Canada or apply for visitor extension.
We have applied for Spousal sponsorship in Feb 2024. Received AOR, Biometrics and Medicals status is completed. In addition to that we applied for open work permit, received conformation of online transmission and biometrics have been updated.
As my spouse's visitor visa is expiring on 18 April 2024, I'm a bit confused.
Please suggest me what is the best thing to do?
Thank you.

Hello,
As your wife has applied for the OWP before her current legal status expires, she is on deemed status now and will remain till she receives a final decision on her OWP application. She does not need to leave Canada after expiry of her visitor visa.

Edit: AOR: Feb 28th 2024

also, OWP applied on: Feb 5th 2024 as my PGWP was expiring in less than 2 weeks.

We haven't heard back from the work permit application and it's been almost three months. Is there anyone on the same boat? I wonder if it's taking this long because the medical exams were not done upfront, but only when they requested it. The medical exam request was for the sponsorship application, but I assume they will use the same for the work visa.

I would suggest following up with IRCC about the OWP. We applied February 23rd and received the permit within a month. Not sure about the medical exam as IRCC can be funny these things. I'm still bitter about having to redo biometrics when my current one is still valid.

I will do that. How do you suggest following up with them? Calling?

I gave my biometrics on April 8th, 2024 as requested for my PR application. I applied for OWP on April 13th. My biometric is reflecting as COMPLETED in my IRCC portal for OWP. However, in PR tracker it is still reflecting as IN PROGRESS although its been more than a month. Any idea why Biometric status is not updated? Since I see everyone in this forum have got their biometric status updated in a day or two.

Hey! The same happened to me. GC Key showed Biometrics completed after a day and the portad updated to completed like a month after I gave my biometrics. I think you should be okay
