Hey,
I applied to sponsor my Algerian husband on Jan 24th, 2017. Now they are asking me to pay the RPRF & to send them a copy of his passport.
His passport expires on Dec29, 2017 ( 10 months left). Do I have to renew it??? & is it gonna cause us troubles later if we don't ?
Our application is in Paris.

As with everything here, you should really seek advice from CIC.

The AOR1 states...

To avoid delays in the processing of your application related to your passport, please ensure that the passport

with which you intend to travel has a validity period of at least one (1) year. If the passport is set to expire

within the next 12 months, you should apply for a new passport now as a visa will not be issued on an expired,

or close to expiring passport.

This would have been after you would have provided a copy of a near expiring passport for the personal identification in the original application anyway.
I don't see it's an issue until they request the physical passport which comes much further down the line.

Here's my timeline:
Posted my application on 3 Feb;
Received text message on arrival at IRCC mailroom on 18 Feb;
Received UCI and App No. on 1 Mar; and
Successfully linked my app on 2 Mar

I got the notification to submit Schedule A and Police Certificate. For Police Certificate, can anyone advise whether my spouse (who is the sponsor) needs to apply? He is a Canadian citizen living with me in Hong Kong right now.

Congratulations!
No where in the application is asking for a police clearance for the sponsor (being a Canadian citizen/Resident). But they might ask for one if the sponsor lived outside Canada for 6 months.

Received my AOR1 overnight and was able to link my application on the third attempt.

It's disconcerting to watch others seemingly skip the queue while you anxiously wait refreshing email / this forum.
From what I imagine the workload is distributed between agents and if you happen to fall into the pile of a particularly busy agent you're in for a wait.

It's promising to see the SA emails have already started coming in!
