Having the same issue not linking

Ok guys, I had trouble linking the application for the last couple of days too but finally got it to work on my 5th try today.
It is somewhat similar to the tips earlier in this thread, I will quote what MAJESTY did:

Hi,

Here's what I did:

1. Logged in with GC Key account.
2. Permanent Residence > Family Class (choose common-law, married or conjugal, whatever applies to you)
3 I selected Family Name, Given Name, Birthday (This is Principal Applicant's (PA) info).
3. City of Birth - I entered 1 space (hit spacebar once or return key until it turns black not red)
4. Country of Birth - Selected PA's country of birth
5. Passport Info - I entered in the dates for passport info but not the passport # (some people didn't enter the info at all, but I couldn't seem to skip the part about the dates)
6. Other Application Info - Filled out the other application info as per our application and put '2' as the number of members in the application. I am sponsoring my common-law partner with not dependent(s).

I did everything the same as above except for step 3 - I picked application number and family name (use family name of PA)
For "passport #", try leaving 1 space like how you would do for "city of birth".
Like MAJESTY, I am sponsoring my spouse and we have no children so put "2" as the number of members in the application.

Thanks for sharing the tips.
Do you mean leaving one space before typing the place of birth and passport number?

Just type a space. Nothing more. Just hit the space bar once for Place of Birth.

For passport info, leave it blank.

Thanks! I haven't got my AOR1 yet but am already dreaded the process of linking my appliccation.
:-X

My app was received Jan. 25. To this date I have received absolutely no correspondence from CPC-M (myself - sponsor nor my partner).

Starting from day 14 after my app was received, I checked everyday to see if I could link my app to MyCIC account. Finally yesterday, exactly 4 weeks (28 days) after my app was signed for, I managed to link my app to my account. I think it was just opened that day because 2 days prior to that, I called the IRCC help line and they told me that my receipt number had not even been entered into the system ie. my file had not even been opened.

Anyways just today, I was also able to start tracking my file on ECAS. At this stage it only says that a background check is in progress. I am pretty sure that I am going to be one of the ones in the 20% group that won't have their applications processed within 12 months, assuming I can make it all the way to the end.

I know some of you are anxious to get an email, but it's possible that they have opened your file and started working on it without sending you an email.

Hope those who are still waiting that soon you'll hear something or can track your file online!

Mailed my application today, fingers crossed. After this whats the next step?

That page seems to suggest that all references to that method of payment have been removed.

Mine is 02/01/2017

Then you wouldn't have completed the imm5401 which was eliminated a year ago.
What you are asking for is the CIC Receipt number.
