Hmmm. Interesting read on the background checks, makes me wonder how in the world the Beijing embassy posts one of the quickest turn around times. Even getting the initial police check with us both being in Canada was an absolute nightmare. We got the original translated, but they refused to give us back the original (not sure why). Which lead to us having to ask the same friends to go back to the police station to get it again, but with the original date. Fortunately they did it. On top of all that, my wife and I lived in Shanghai, and her family in a city nearby, but she went to university in Tianjin so we HAD to get the police doc's done from that location....     .

A small update on our case I guess, I called the CIC to ask why we didn't have our embassy AOR yet, and after being transferred a couple times and having to be a little forceful I got them to say that in general the Chinese embassy doesn't issue one.

So thats good news (maybe??)

Hoping for a good week for the group ahead!! :D :D :D :D

Small update from me: on the Sponsorship part of my eCAS it finally says Decision Made - even if it was made on March 10, just got updated now.

I also sent a case specific enquiry to Rome to ask if they had received my application. I just want to know that much. Hopefully they answer...

How do you send a request to know if a certain place has received the application?

Today, my wife received notice from Hong Kong that they had received her application. So that's an AOR from Visa office on April 15. Thank you ;D

hmm, I can't find it.... Is it supposed to be on the page that has your status (in my case, "Application Received") on it? It's not there I believe...

First post on this board! I'm looking for some reassurance (aren't we all) because I feel like our PR application is not "ideal". My boyfriend and I have been together for 2 years, of which we've lived together 1.5 (but waited about 10 months before putting his name on the lease...(May of last year). I know that common law applications are already tough, but hope this doesn't ruin everything. This May we will have 12 whole rent statements together, and to include more proof we included bank statements that show transfers of money between our accounts that show us contributing equally to rent and other expenses. Other proof we sent was "soft" such as sworn letters witnessed by a lawyer, and photos of us together, mostly on different vacations in various European cities, or spending Christmas with his family and having a summer holiday together with my family in Mississauga. We're also young (23 and 24) so hopefully that doesn't weigh against us.

By the way we currently live in Paris but I've been accepted to law school in Ontario (I lived in Canada from birth to 21 years old) and we are hoping to move to Canada mid-August. I included the law school acceptance letter in the file obviously as well as confirmation of my acceptance of the spot and I hope that will suffice as proof of my intention to return to live in Canada. If the PR application is not approved in time we will use the francophone advantage program to get my boyfriend a work visa without needing an LMO - but for that he needs a job offer in a qualified field (he will be a newly graduated engineer).

Anyway enough introductions. Here are our dates so far:

Application sent by DHL: Feb 17
Application received: Feb 19
Step 1 AOR: April 4 (why so long???)
SA: April 9
medicals already received :)

Do you guys know where I email to report an error in the form? When we filled it, ends up my wife wrote her phone number wrong >.>. She put country code 7, then 7 again with her number. Theres no second 7. I'm sure cic would figure that out if they needed to phone her, seeing as how there are too many digits in the phone number, but still. Is there a way for me to email the moscow office to tell them the correct number? I know I can email them with Case Specific Enquiry, but I'm unsure if that's what I should use.

Sigh >.>

I sent a general inquiry email to the SYD office directly - their email was from the CIC site - it took about 1-2 days to get a reply. Might give that a try?

Sent one just now, asking what I should do. I'm sure they can figure out how to call her if needed, just a needless headache.

Hello Romance-in-Paris,
I don't see why they are going to refuse your application. Mine is similar and is going also through Paris, so if mine is positive your's probably will be
I put you in the spreadsheet already.
Now you just have to relax and wait until they send you the letter with the PR
Good luck

Thank you for your reply Steler! It's great to have some reassurance from members of this board who are going through the same thing. It seems the PR application is a recipe for paranoia :p Anyway I hope I have as good luck with the Paris office as you have had so far!

No, I don't think that common law applications are particularly tough, although sometimes you will get an agent who will ask why you didn't just get married instead. It sounds to me like you have a solid application. We worked on ours for almost 4 years (!) but you know that it will never be "perfect" so you just have to send it in and hope that you've included what they're looking for.
