It's hard to say. Depends on which officer is working your file. Sounds like September is your bring forward date though. You can only send everything off as soon as you can and see what happens.

My aunt works for Immigration and told me that Ottawa is averaging 6 months for applications to complete. I know that's a little different than what happens around here, but it's let's be optimistic :)

I was afraid it might be the bring forward date too. When I spoke with the lawyer today, she said she purposely made us wait on paying the fee until now because getting refunds *if* we get denied are really annoying and complicated. :/ I'm disappointed in myself for not catching this sooner because I would've much rather paid the fee upfront and had a risk of having to go through an annoying refund process than adding an extra 2-4 months on my wait time. Also, not sure how we didn't send in our marriage certificate.

Ugh. I think if we had been handling our application on our own, I think I would've been more cautious about all this. Since we had a lawyer, I think I put too much trust in the fact that they were checking everything and making sure everything was ready to go.

Oh well, I guess nothing can be done now. We paid the fee and sent a copy of the marriage certificate immediately after CIC emailed, so now I'm crossing my fingers that maybe they'll begin processing things (instead of waiting until September).

Would CIC be really annoyed if I contacted them to ask them if that is in fact the bring forward date? Hahaha

Thanks for the info. Got any other good intel? :)

Actually, Ottawa seems to be becoming more regular for 6 month processing. January applicants on here are landing! Fingers crossed it stays that way! :)

A lot of Jan and December applicants are getting their files looked at 2 or 3 weeks after sending in addition documents! And Ottawa only took 3 1/2 months to process mine (counting when I got Sponsorship Approval to when I got my COPR).

Maybe, but in any case they did processed November and December applications in June, then the natural thing to follow is January and February in July... so, I am optimistic.....

Here I quote another example.......

It could be. Depending on how long you knew your spouse before marrying and how much relationship proof you have. They want to avoid having people just marry anybody to join their families.

Not really, unfortunately. It's funny because she was explaining a lot of the process to me - how they double check everything and do their own background checks - and the whole time I was like, yes I know I learned that on the forum I joined hahaha. Seems mostly everyone with some experience knows the whole story around here.

The only things she said that I kind of shrugged at (because like, could she have told me this 2 years ago when my husband started coming to Canada and the application wasn't even a twinkle in my eye) was that every time your spouse crossing into Canada to visit by land they should ask to get their passport stamped. She said it looks better to CIC if you have stamps for your visits.

Hmm, I don't really understand your lawyer's advice. Because even if they deny you they can't finish processing your application without you paying the RPRF first. Sounds like kind of bad advice to me. At the very least she should have warned you that it would cause a small delay in finishing up your application. I've heard a lot of bad stories about lawyers and consultants who seem to know much less about the process than people on this forum. Because of my need to control things I wanted to do everything myself and relied on the people here and their personal experiences to direct me when I was confused. I don't think I could trust someone who has 10 or more clients to be giving my application the same amount of dedication I could give it, you know? But hindsight is 20/20.

I think I would try replying to the email they sent you requesting extra documents. Say to them you want to make sure they received everything, and that you are curious about if the September date is set in stone as the next time they'll touch your file - something like that. They might take some time to reply - if at all - but generally you can get one answer from the call centre agent and then call again and get a totally different answer.

You can change your addresses that are listed to where you'd like to receive your mail:

Yeah, I don't really understand her logic either. I was pretty upset to learn that yesterday. Our case was pretty open-shut (nothing too complicated), so the reason we chose to have a lawyer was to ensure it would get done as quickly as possible and to make sure we didn't forget anything. Instead, the opposite happened with a lawyer. >.<
And thanks for the advice - I'll send them an email right now!

Our lawyer recommended we pay everything up front, to avoid any delays.

TeamGo, Your lawyer seemed to know what was up. Oh well.
