Hello there.

I submitted for an FBI background check and they charged my credit card Dec 28, 2010. When they charge the credit card does it mean I will receive it soon? I keep on checking the mail figuring I'll get it any day but not sure...hoping I don't get a finger print illegible reading then I'll be devastated....

I e-mailed them yesterday asking if my prints were legible and if they were mailing it soon (mentioned they charged my credit card) but they sent me a generic email saying they receive thousands of requests and the typical time is 12 weeks.

Also what if my state background check is 2 months old or almost 3 when I send application? Do I need to redo that since that came fast?

It wasn't very long after my credit card was charged that I received my clearance - but I have seen others report that their cards were charged but their prints were still returned as illegible and they had to redo them. So having the card charged, unfortunately, is not guarantee they will be able to use the prints to get a clearance. It does, however, mean that they have at least opened your request and started processing. I think it was about 10 days from the charge date until they mailed mine.

State clearances are not routinely required anymore - so I wouldn't go to the trouble to redo them. Send what you have - if they decide they want new State clearances, they'll ask for them . . . but with a clean, new FBI clearance, I doubt they'll need it.

My wife sent her fingerprints to the FBI on October 19th 2010 and they charged her credit card on October 25th 2010 and she didn't receive her clearance until January 3rd 2011..Good Luck

They charged it on October 25th or November 25th? Also was it mailed to the US or canada? I figured as soon as they charged credit card i would get it in about 2 weeks.

Still waiting....
