I know there has been quite a bit of discussion in the past about FBI Channelers. I noticed that CIC now states on their website that they allow FBI approved channelers to process the background check. Given this new information, and the fact that the FBI is no longer producing background checks on blue security paper, I chose to go with Fieldprint, an FBI approved channeler. Within an hour of my fingerprint appointment, I received my results online.

Is anyone else choosing this method in 2015? Please share! We are submitting our U.S. outland application for PR within the next two weeks.

We just submitted our US outland application yesterday, and I also chose to get my FBI clearance through a FBI approved channeler. Prior to that, I already mailed a request for a FBI clearance, but it takes forever. Hopefully we don't have any problems.

I was trying to decide which way to go myself. Did it cost a lot more to use a channeler? I need the FBI plus two states that I lived in. So you are saying instead of waiting 12-16 weeks, you got the results in one hour? That would be great!

Channelers usually cost more.

Did CIC explicitly ask you for the state reports?

I have not filed paperwork yet, wanted to send the FBI background check and medical with the paperwork, all at once. I live in Texas but was born in Missouri. When I read the forms, It looked like I have to have state clearance from both states and also the FBI check.

List of FBI Approved Channelers:

I looked up Fieldprint, Inc. www.fieldprint.com/FBI (877) 614-4364 and the cost is USD50.00

Unless something changed recently, you just need to submit the report from the FBI. Most everyone just submits the FBI report. Some people have been requested by CIC to get and submit the state police certificate but AFAIK in most normal cases you just need the FBI one.

You can receive your results online in about an hour (just so you can see your report), but you would need to receive the actual report from the channeller in the mail, to then forward to CIC.

Did you have to print the application and take it with you? I tried to register for appt online and it only asks for a little info, but I see on the FBI page it says print application and take when getting fingerprinted. I thought that I send that in after I get results.

Which application are you talking about? Application to request FBI report or application to apply for PR.

For fingerprinting you might need to take with you the application to request for FBI report with you. That application form is available on FBI website and it might also be available on FBI approved Channeler website.

When you receive the results (FBI Report) send it to CIC along with your application for PR and other required documents.

This is the way to go. My husband has to go through a channeler now, after 17 weeks of waiting for his FBI report, I called this morning to learn his prints, which were taken by a law enforcement agency, were rejected. :-\ :-\
