Regarding the meeting Low Income Cut-Off (LICO), is my husband's income considered as well? I have stopped working since my kid was born and am currently a stay at home mom.

If husband's income is taken into consideration, do we need to provide marriage certificate? It's not a require doc.

Yes - your husband's income will be considered. You would just need to submit your tax NOAs assuming you are filing jointly as you should be.

Thanks DeHdez15 for info. I got a quote for my grandma and it's nearly double of yours with $0 deductible. And it doesn't even cover the pre-existing conditions.
That sounds about right given her age and medical conditions.

Well, I have $1,000.00 deductible, that lowered the policy price a little...
If your Grandma gets sick due to any of her pre-x, it won't be covered and you will end up with a gigantic medical bill :(

1. Is it really OK to apply for PR when she is already in Canada on SV? I hate to bring her in and then find out she has to be out of Canada to apply.

2. Is the SV always valid for 10 years renewable every 2 years?

1. You can apply for a PR from inside or outside. She can still 'visit' while the application is in process.

Please note that parent and grandparent sponsorship takes a long time, and it's a competition. The next competition is scheduled for January 3rd 2017 (if I remember correctly).

2. The super visa is usually valid for the life of the passport. She would have two years from the date of entry before she would have to leave (and come back).
I would like to apply for PR for my mother, she is here 2 years with Supervisa, Can we enter the competition on 2017, while she is still in Canada?
If we make it for the competition, do you know if they will ask her to leave while waiting for a response?
My mother does not have any children back home, just siblings that are also in their 60's and can't take care of her. Not that she is very sick, she has diabetes and HBP, she manages with diet, exercise and her pills.

H&C is only possible if she is physically in Canada. Is she in Canada?

If not - no point spending money on a lawyer to talk about H&C until you can get her here.

Thanks for pointing out the condition applying under H&C.

We are in the process of applying for the super visa. So she is yet to be here. But correct me if I am wrong. Since she has travel/medical insurance coverage, the super visa should have no problem getting approved. Am I wrong?

I want to get a head start on the PR application. That's why I'd like to have referral for lawyers.

Make sure the travel/medical coverage she has meets the super visa requirements.

Having the insurance by no means guarantees the super visa will be approved. She still needs to pass a medical (I think this will be quite challenging in her case). She also needs to provide evidence that she has strong ties to her home country and has no plans on remaining in Canada long term. Typically this means showing proof of property ownership, assets, etc.

I understand that she still needs to go through medical exam. But...If she is covered by insurance, why she still needs to pass medical exam? My guess would be to make sure they won't admit anyone with contagious disease which she doesn't. So I am hoping she will pass without any issue. Am I missing anything?

Thanks again for the tip about showing ties to her home country.

You've misunderstood the purpose of the medical.

Read the fine-print on her policy. Insurance typically doesn't cover pre-existing conditions. Canada doesn't want to be stuck paying for any health care costs related to pre-existing conditions not covered by insurance. This is why people with pre-existing conditions can be refused.

As a visitor, her medical expense won't be covered by the govt, pre-existing or not is irrelevant. It has nothing to do with private insurance coverage.

As for the insurance there are 2 types of plan, plan A won't cover any pre-existing conditions but plan B would. It all depends on what you buy and qualified.

It is relevant. What can end up happening is that a visitor ends up in hospital and receives care that isn't insured. The visitor then leaves without paying and Canadian tax payers are left footing the bill for their care. This is the scenario that CIC is attempting to avoid by having a medical as part of the super visa process.

Yes - you're right. Having said that, insurance that covers pre-existing conditions tends to be extremely expensive. In your case, this is definitely what I would buy (i.e. the B plan).
