Hi everyone! This site helped me out back when my initial 6 month stay was up and I needed to apply to extend my stay, so I figured I'd come back and see if I could get some advice about my current situation.
I'm an American citizen who has been in Canada since May 2012 in order to spend time with my Canadian boyfriend. When my 6 month stay was up in November, I reapplied and was given 6 more months, meaning my status is good until the end of May 2013.
My boyfriend and I decided that we wanted to spend our lives together and so at the end of February we got married. The plan has always been for us to live in the United States, so we decided to file the proper paper work to apply for a spousal visa for my husband down there.
Because the US visa processing times are not definite, we're unsure of when the process will be complete, and therefore I think I need to reapply to extend my stay in Canada when the time comes. My concern is that because I'm married to a Canadian with no intention of applying for Canadian PR, will that be a red flag for the people looking at my extension application? I plan on providing the US immigration paperwork that we have at the time of application, but will that be enough to satisfy the Canadian government that I plan on leaving?
Has anyone been in this situation or know of any other threads on here that could provide potential help? Thanks!
