I am unsure as to how I should complete the "complete/full academic years" field for the degrees listed below.

In general, does this question ask for the number of years one was enrolled in a particular program or for the official length of the program?

(1) I have a masters in mathematical statistics which I believe is officially a 2 year degree, however, I completed the degree over the span of 5 years. The first year was full time course work and thereafter it was dissertation work only. WES has confirmed that this degree is the equivalent of a Canadian masters degree.

(2) I have a mphil in mathematical finance which I completed over a period of 18 months. The first 12 months was full time course work and thereafter it was dissertation work only. WES has confirmed that this degree is the equivalent of a Canadian masters degree.

(3) My husband received his BComm in 2013 but was enrolled in the program in 2004-2006 and then again in 2011-2012. WES has confirmed that this degree is the equivalent of a Canadian Bachelors degree (three years).

Has anyone been in the same position and had a successful PR application?

Hi cansha,
Thank you for your reply. If I may ask - what is your answer based on? Did you have a similar situation where you took longer than the official length of the program to complete a degree? Or did you read it somewhere trustworthy?
Have you received PR?

If you click on the ? mark, then you'll see a line where it mentions "must be supported by transcripts".

Assuming that your course of study has two semesters in a year. So if you have transcripts of two semesters, then you have completed one full year. If you have transcripts of four semesters, then you have completed two years. If you have ten semesters of transcripts, then five years.

I am sure using this you can calculate for each of your cases.

@pizzaboy99 , thank you very much for replying to my post. So just to make sure I'm understanding you correctly - if I took say 8 semesters to complete 6 semesters' work (i.e. all 1st - 3rd year subjects) because I failed some subjects, then I should say that I completed 4 full academic years and not 3?

I am not sure whats the procedure in case of failed subjects. Personally, I would put 4 years if I could attach 8 semesters worth of transcripts to my application (even if some of the transcripts have some subjects as failed) as thats what the instructions say "supported by transcripts".

Hello ! in my case I failed one semester which I had to retake the next year (it was during my third year) so I finished a 5 years diploma in 6 years but I only have transcripts for 10 semesters because the failed ones are not taken into consideration (WES granted me with a master's degree though).
So in my case I should write 5fuls academic years right ?

Hi Himarie!

did You get a conclusive answer to your question? I’m in similar situation, did you put official time of the program or the actual time enrolled?
Please can you reply
