Honestly, my lawyer does not understand my husband's job and what Special Forces means. I didn't know either before being with him 5 years ago and I knew very few from him because they do not talk that much when they come home. So, I grabbed books and asked him questions that he would be able to answer to. I did the same thing with the sponsorship file, but at the end everyone around me pushed me to get a lawyer because our case is a special case and I did and now I regret it, because she actually triggered that request from the visa office because she stated he stayed there for one year and after debriefing he resigned. The wording and the dates messed things up. :(

When I was in the UK army (many years ago admittedly) every soldier had a pay book which he was obliged to carry with him always. It was not simply a record of pay but also if I remember correctly a behaviour record: if the soldier had been charged with an offence, it would be entered in his pay book. Moreover, on demobilisation he received a certificate stating inter alia either that he was of good character or otherwise: that was something to show future employers. The certificate would have taken into account anything relevant in the pay book record. Does your husband have anything similar? If what you say is correct about his details not being known to the Afghan police, the place to inquire about a police certificate would surely be the military? A letter from his former commanding officer would be a start, and if that is not forthcoming, or not acceptable to CIC, my inclination would be to try the military police and if that also is unsuccessful I would go up the chain of command and see what happens. I would be very surprised if CIC were to come to the conclusion that the problem is not capable of resolution. My inclination also would be to sack the lawyer!

Thank you so much! He wrote a letter explaining the situation and we cancelled the lawyer too. Now we are waiting for an answer and see if they accept the letter or not. Meanwhile I've looked up the police certificate form from the aghan embassy and talked with them too. In order to get a pol cert he needs tazkera, an identification document for afghans or residents of afghanistan which he does not have because he was neither. Depending on the answer from the visa office we are going to ask his former commanding officer for a letter and also add the form showing them that it is not possible to obatin one (hope they will accept this time :( because he is considered a civillian and it is hard to get any info from the army :( ). For now I am breathing and waiting :) zen mood! Hoping they will understand..

So, they did not say anything about the information I sent them, which I go by: no news, good news quote :)) and one week ago they e-mailed my husband to ask him for his passport, two pictures, height and eye colour, but they said: within 15 days you will receive an answer in regards to our final decision. What I don't understand is: can they ask for the passport and refuse him? Because I assumed that by asking for the passport, he is approved. I'm so anxious right now, it feels like days as going by so slowlyyyyy :)) Any idea?

Well, it is highly unlikely to refuse spouse sponsorship without interview. So Passport Request followed by Decision Made only means one thing: Approval. That is my experience in the year I have been looking through these forums.
