entrance into Canada

So we have the papers for the Outland process basically ready to send, and my wife from the UK is flying into Canada through the US in a few weeks. Nothing will be sent before she arrives. She has a place to stay (with me), $4500 cash available, and a return ticket for just under 6 months.

We aren't sure if at that time she will return to the UK or apply for a Visa extension, it depends on a few different things.

She is very worried about getting rejected at the boarder. Any tips or suggestions or things she/we need to do?

Thanks again,
Rick

In my opinion you have a pretty strong case for showing ties back to the UK, which is what they want to see. The funds are there to support her stay, and she has a return ticket. She'll get a few questions, but I doubt they would have any concerns.

I was worried about the same thing (even though my husband had a work permit), and its really it's hard to tell.

The advice I was reading is to have available as much evidence of ties back home as possible (job, house, etc) and to say that she is visiting you only (which is true). I don't think visa exempt people have too many challenges at the border, but you never know so better be prepared.

You can submit the PR app before she comes, and bring proof of it (like fee receipt ) to be shown to CBSA. In general they are easier on visitors when they already have PR app in progress. Though for a visa-exempt applicant and having return ticket and enough funds to support trip, there should be no problems at all either way.

Thanks everyone.

So would it be better to tell them that she is just vacationing, or that we plan on applying for sponsorship and PR? If we tell the truth, it is likely worse as we are unsure if/when she would be returning to the UK. We don't plan to do anything illegal. Are they stingy either way?

I thought I had read in other places here that having a PR app in process made it HARDER to get entry into the country....or perhaps I am confusing that with people who are trying to apply for a TRV when they have a PR app in process? (which wouldn't be the case here as a TRV is not required).

Makes it harder only to apply for a TRV, which is irrelevant to anyone that is visa-exempt.

To add.. the advice that I read on here and other places is to answer the officer's questions truthfully without giving extra information. If they point blank ask you if you plan to apply for PR (which is unlikely), don't lie. But no need to disclose it ahead of time and saying that the purpose of the trip is her visiting you should be more than enough. One caveat, make sure she doesn't show up at the border with 4 suitcases.. that might look strange for someone just visiting..

Never disclose more than what they ask. She is visiting you.
If they got suspicious and ask if she plans to apply for PR that is when she would say yes, otherwise I wouldn't bother mentioning it as you don't know how the border officer will be that day.

Also agree with poster above, don't take loads of luggage/personal items.

Hi
I applied for my patents in April 2011for parmanent Resident in Canada. In November 2014 I send all the additional Documents with immigration fees. In March 2014 I received letter from immigration canada they received my application and it is complete they send it to Quebec processing centre and they start processing it November 2014 .
I didn't get any letter after that and my online application status shows they receive my application. It doesn't say it's in process.
Is that mean they approved my application?
What will be next step?

Thanks
