Really? That would be great! I want to be 100% sure I could have it notarized in two different places without both of us being present (main reason I replied to their email to make sure it was legit was because I was under the assumption I'd have to go up there to be physically with him to sign before a notary)

But how would we have it notarized in different places on the same paper? Since it lists a line under which you provide the date and place you had it notarized.

While I wait for news from CIC this week I'll go ahead and have the document signed and notarized for me and overnight it to my fiance. If I do need the document and I can for SURE just notarize it here and then send it, I'd so much rather do that. I don't mind the extra while of waiting if it means I can work and I don't have to suddenly plan a move.

Also thank you all so much for your prompt and insightful responses. It means a lot, we would've had a much tougher time if it weren't for these forums.

The second notary can add a line under the one on the form, saying the usual thing: this was sworn before me on Nov. ---, 2015, at ----, etc.
I asked someone with a law degree and experience about this. She said it should be OK, but nothing is 100% sure. She said she had had things notarized like this before: where the person in the USA had it notarized there, sent it to Canada, and the second person had the same paper or form notarized here, with the notary just adding the line. They were always accepted.

I think it just feels a bit messy or impossible to do on CIC's document, there's no space. But I'll call up a notary tomorrow and double check. HOPEFULLY I'll get a response from CIC this week so I have a better idea of how to proceed, thank you for your help.

Still hoping we just don't need it :D

Well the officer replied today thankfully, however we do need the document, I replied asking to see if it was possible to have the document split-signed: I have it signed under a notary here and send it to him to have the same thing done in Ontario. If not I would definitely make a trip up there to have it done. I figure may as well ask to be certain.

Nice that he replied but sucks that you need it. Did he explain why? Just for my and future applicants information.
