EI and Sponsored Person or Sponsor

Dear Experts,

Can a sponsored person, say Spouse (within first three (3) years in Canada) be on EI? As mentioned on guide, a sponsor has a responsibility to take care of the Sponsored (Spouse) expenses for 3 years atleast. What if the sponsored person (Spouse) quailifies for EI, can s/he claim it?

Secondly, if the sponsor wanted to sponsor another application (family member), would that be effected because initial applicant (spouse) is on EI.

*Please note, spouse is not the co-signer for any application.

1. EI is an insurance scheme, you pay into when you work and collect it if you are laid off, it is not public assistance and has no bearing on spousal applications.
2. It is unlikely that single person on EI would make the Low Income Cutoff figure to sponsor other family members. But you never know.

For 2nd point, If sponsor, who is not on EI but sponsored her/his spouse (who is now on EI), wants to sponsor another person, do you think there would be an adverse impact on future application?
