If you filed your taxes for 2012 then that is what you mark on your application. the requirement to file is not tied to the 183 days on the application.
Also, my son is 4 years old and he just started the school a month back, should i get a Attendance sheet from his teacher for the month? or is it fine he doesn't need to show anything for residency requirement.

not true, US citizen needs to file for US tax no matter where he lives, Canadian citizen living outside Canada only needs to pay if he has economic/family ties in Canada, otherwise he can apply for non-tax status
