Dual citizen question

Hello all, I'm happy I found this forum! Thank you in advance for all your help and support. My fiancee and I are getting married in December 2018 in Cuba, and I plan on applying to sponsor her right after. I hold dual Canadian and Portuguese citizenship, and as such she's entitled to Portuguese citizenship.

1- should I wait until she holds a Portuguese passport (she's Russian living in Russia) to apply, or should I apply with her Russian Citizenship?

2 - IF we apply as Russian, would she be able to come visit me using the Portuguese passport? And if so, would that cause any problems for the sponsorship application?

1.) You don't have to wait until she holds a Portuguese passport......will advice you apply after your marriage.......spousal sponsorship takes months to complete........your spousal sponsorship will not be approved based on your wife citizenship but will be approved based on the proof and genuineness of your marriage/relationship.

2.) If your wife apply with Russian citizenship......you may need to inform IRCC when she acquires Portuguese citizenship (IMM008...Principal Applicant’s Personal Details....Question 9....Citizenship(s)).......Portuguese passport holders are visitor visa-exempt to Canada.....with no effect on the sponsorship application.

Hi

1. Depends on how long it will take. It would be a bit easier to apply with the Portuguese passport, as she would not have to send her actual passport at the end of the process. The app will likely still be processed in Warsaw.

2. Yes, she could come visit with her Portuguese passport. It would have no effect on the sponsorship app.
